Help Screen brightness variation between different handsets

Hi Folks I wonder if anyone can help.

I bought a beat up samsung galaxy s2 on ebay. It was my first android phone coming over from iphones and I was blown away how good it was. I decided once I had some money I'd buy a brand new samsung galaxy S2 so I could look after it and keep it in mint condition. Anyway putting the 2 phones side by side the new phone's screen is not as bright as the older phone. Both are ICS (old one is 4.0.3 and new one is 4.0.4) The brightness settings in display are all the same. The old phone really is significantly brighter. I've even compared friends phones and theirs are not as bright either. Can anyone shed any light on this? Did samsung change the design of the screens? Or maybe they have reduced power consumpition on newer handsets to save battery? Any advice would be gratefully received cos I'm so disappointed with the new phone...

Not sure about 4.0.4 or if they changed the screen, but I can tell you that form GB to ICS, the screen brightness was tweaked and was not as bright at the same percentage under ICS.

Are both phones the same model ? Check the model number on both.

I remember when Samsung first launched Galaxy S (Gt-I9000), soon after they launched GT-I9003 which was not AMOLED but LCD phone.

Also when complaints like quick battery drain are popping up, the first weapon against these complaints is to reduce the screen brightness in next firmware revision.

If models are exactly same, then probably they have changed the settings in the firmware.

hello

yes they are both i9100 galaxy S2. The new one straight out of the box is running icescream sandwich 4.04 whereas the older one i got off ebay arrived with ginger bread on it so is probably 12+ months old. The difference in the screen really is noticeable....
