Sorry if this has been asked before.

Is there a way to allow the screen to "dim out" without activating the lock ?

ScreenModeWidget
There is an app/widget called "ScreenModeWidget". It has 3 options...
1. Sleep Auto. Just like factory settings. Screen will timeout and turn off, also locks.
2. Awake Stay. Screen will timeout and turn off, but does not lock. You don't have to swipe when you wake it up. You can wake it up with End call button or the trackball. Also, you can press a Volume button to wake up.

3. Screen Stay. Screen always stays on and will not lock.

I use option 2. That way I can hit the end button to wake up phone and do not have to swipe or press menu. You can also press trackball to wake it up. Also, you can press a Volume button to wake up.

Also, in case it's not obvious (widget), you need to add the app as a Widget on the screen. + > Android widget > ScreenModeWidget

^^^^Exactly^^^^
Great widget, I never lock my phone. Although you have to re-set the widget every time you turn the phone off and on.

I don't quite understand why you need a widget for this the screen dims and locks itself on its own.

Sounds good. Question though...how do you lock the phone if using #2? Does pressing the End button still do it?

When set with option 2, pressing End button will turn the screen off. To turn the screen on again, press the End button or the trackball or a volume button. When the screen turns on, you do not have to swipe or press Menu to unlock.

Anyone have an app that works JUST like Option 2, but will then LOCK the screen after it is dimmed for 30 minutes?
