Help Screen flashes on and off randomly while in a call?

Hi,
As soon as I make a call on my Moto G the screen begins flashing on and off at random, interrupting the use of the touchscreen.
This makes it difficult for me to navigate away from the dialer and perform other tasks. The problem stops when I put the phone on loudspeaker, however I can't do this with apps like Skype, so I'm not able to multitask on them.
What can I do about this?

Welcome to the forums! I'm not sure why you'd be experiencing those flashes. I have not had that happen on my Moto G. Which version do you have? Have you rooted? Put on a custom ROM? Using stock ROM?

I'm running android 4.4.4, but I started with 4.4.2. I've haven't rooted, this is a problem I've had since the phone came out of the box.
It just occurred to me that there could be something wrong with the proximity sensor. The screen tends to black out when I try to touch it

Hi

Having the same problem. Extremely frustrating.

(The reason why the screen goes off when you touch the proximity sensor is so that the screen turns off when you have your phone on your ear during call)

Sorry don't have a solution!

For that one ... if you have Tasker ... try ...

Profile: tlaSensorOff
State: Proximity Sensor
Enter: Anon
A1: Variable Add [ Name:%TLA Value:1 Wrap Around:0 ]

... this just bumps a counter if the sensor is covered.

Do you have a screen protector on the screen?

Sometimes they can interfere with the proximity sensor, even when they have a cut out for it.

If you've done a factory reset and tried everything else, I would remove the screen protector before returning it (assuming you have one fitted).

As the others have mentioned, I've seen similar screwy behavior on a variety of devices cause by either a screen protector or a case.

Best of luck :)

Now that's one I hadn't thought of.

I have had exact same problem from day 1 out of the box (kk v4.4.2) and hoped the new dialer in v4.4.4 would fix this but no luck and I do not have a screen protector so you are not the only one with this annoying problem. Hopefully someone will figure this out asap (e.g. Verizon?)

I have experienced this problem as well.I have noticed it happens more when I'm in a darker environment or a dim lit room. I believe its due to the proximity sensor's sensitivity. I do not have a screen protector or grip shell. I'm have a moto g with Android 4.4.2 on boost mobile.

I noticed something today. I was in a Skype call and my screen was flashing on and off from the proximity sensor as usual I noticed it occurred a lot more when I used my right hand to touch the screen but when I used my left hand I personally didn't have it act up at all. So what I guessing is that due to the sensor being to the right of the earpeice and using my right hand the fingers that I'm not using on my right hand activate the sensor. That is my best guess
