Help Screen goes dark when using phone

philrock

Lurker
My screen goes dark after about 10 seconds when I'm on a call. So, when I need to enter any digits when in an IVR system or even ending a voicemail, I have to go through the process of unlocking the phone.

I don't have the new update yet but from what I've read, I don't see that there's a fix for this. Anyone experience this?

Also, I have my personal email set to check email frequency every hour. However, I always have to go in and either "refresh" or push the "load more messages" button. What's the purpose of checking emails every hour if I always have to go retrieve them manually?

I too have experienced both of these issues. I think the first issues is maybe tied to the light/proximity sensor, as I have seen my screen flicker on and off several time while talking, usually when I am pulling the unit from my face and trying to place the call on speaker. It is very annoying....

Try installing this:

It automatically wakes the screen when you pull it away from your face. :)

Welcome to the forums, philrock.

Nghthawk47 is correct, the proximity sensor attempts to keep the screen off while close to the face of the user, and back on when away.

The sensor is located right at the top of the front of the unit, and sometimes sweat or makeup or whatever will partially block that area causing the sensor to "think" the phone is up by the face being used in a call when it is not. Keeping that area very clean is a common remedy for it going black when not near the face.

Also, sadly, some of those proximity sensors are just poor quality, and some users have had to get a replacement phone.

Others try apps, such as suggested by jbirdsf.
