Root Screen has trouble turning on and off

I've read a few post on peoples screens not turning on or off and most have been hardware issues nothing software. I just wanted to ask again if anyone has this problem with their desire. I have CM7 and when i push the power button to turn my screen on sometimes it wont turn on. I thought it was my otterbox case so i took it off and still it wouldnt turn on. It also has trouble sometimes turning off but it seems like the majority of the time it wont turn on. Help would be appreciated. Just need to see if its me or the phone. I might need to un-root and take it back.

Set trackball wake and see if it also happens waking with that. If yes, could be software or settings.

I inspected my phone closer today and realized that my power button is all F'ed up. I think I need to get it fixed because if my phone dies its hard to turn it back on unless there is another way to power on the phone that I don't know about.
