Help screen is corrupt

sbvermont

Lurker
All of a sudden my screen is corrupt (don't have privileges to upload a snapshot yet). I didn't drop it or get it wet. It works fine, but I get weird checkerboard glitches whenever I navigate to a different screen. The checkerboard glitches may even correct themselves if I do random things on the screen. It happens on all apps and all screens. I even did a factory reset.

Is there any way out of replacing my phone completely. Don't think so, but I'm looking for ideas. Thanks

Tried that already. Didn't work. Out of curiosity, what does pulling the battery out do that power off reset or even a factory reset to default wouldn't do as well. In any case, tried all of the above.

The difference is that when you turn the phone off, or reset or press any other button, the hardware still has power on it. When you pull the battery you remove power from the hardware, resetting it. On a desktop it's called power cycling. Instead of restarting, you power down for a few seconds.

Sometimes a piece of hardware (like the GPU, in your case) is a computer itself, and just doing a factory reset doesn't do anything to it, or the modem, which is also a computer, or the external SD card, which is also a computer ...

Pulling the battery resets all these things.

So if the GPU "went nuts", pulling the battery will reboot it, fixing the problem. But you appear to have a hardware problem, and the carrier will probably have to replace the phone. Make sure you have EVERYTHING backed up, then find out where your carrier's nearest store that does repairs in-house is. Bring the phone there, and if they can't "fix" it, they'll give you a refurb. (Most carriers will, anyway.)
