Screen issue with xperia ray

Hi every one. Recently I started having this problem with my phone. After remaining idle for some time it does not display the unlock screen until I press the on/off button for several times. It just stays blank although the screen background light turns on.

The same thing happens during incoming call. I can't reply before pressing several times the power button and it may take around 10 seconds before the incoming call screen appears. But once it is turned on it keeps working normally and turns on at a single press of the button.

Appreciate if anyone could guess the reason.
 
Hey! Thanks for reply. I've had this phone since Jan 2012, so little more than a year. No, it is not rooted, haven't used anything from outside of Android Market, or messed with the operation system, have updated the software several times on automatic suggestion from official website.

I hate to say then since its not rooted, you may have recently developed some hardware malfunctions then.
