Help Screen protector or not?

Hey Guys.

I've used a screen protector on my last 2 phones.
I'm a legend at putting them on, so I never get bubles, and u can barely tell it's there.
Just changed the screen protector on my 2yo Omnia HD, and the screen is still in pristine condition.

My questions are:

1. How good is Gorilla Glass?
2. Why are people against screen protectors?
3. What is the rough price of replacing a damaged SAMOLED+ screen,
and do they just replace it with a regular LCD one??

Thanx

Yes, either use a screen protector or a phone sock. Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof.

As for the price of replacement screens and the reason why users don't use them, your guess is as good as mine. :)

My captivate with gorilla glass, I use no screen protector for months now, and I carry it around in my pocket with change and keys and a watch, and no scratches at all. And I work 12 hour shifts in a warehouse, often doing physically demanding things, so I think I'm putting way more stress on the phone in my pocket than a normal person.

Dont want to steer you wrong, but I can only say that's been my experience. IMO gorilla glass means no screen protector needed.

I thought that for a while until I got a small scratch on the bottom of the screen, I regretted not putting the protector on there right away.

Yes, you should put a screen protector on, in your case.

And why do people not do it? For obvious reasons. The main one being it doesn't look good and obstructs the screen. Even the best ones do that. Samsung put a lot of engineering work into melding the glass, LCD, and touchscreen together in one thin package so it looks like the image is on the surface of the device and not buried under a thick, reflective and fishtank looking pane of glass. Adding screen protectors defeats this purpose. Applying it evenly and lining everything up is also a beotch and can ruin the look even more for those with less dextrous fingers.

Second, the screen protector is less smooth and tactile than the actual glass. This is subjective. It also seems less responsive as well, for obvious reasons. Why place anymore distance between you and the capacitive touchscreen? And thirdly, it cost money for a good screen protector and you never know if the cheapo or even the expensive brand ones are cut perfectly to fit the display without some unsightly margin at the edges.

Is it really that hard to figure out some of the reasons?????????????????????????????

Can't say I agree with these reasons, good screen protectors are not noticable when installed properly and are just as smooth. They do not make the screens less responsive. These seem more like excuses than legitimate reasons not using them.

Oooh that hurt. My reasons not legitimate? I beg to differ. I never said your reasons were not legitimate, so don't SHOCK me with your one-sided logic. I said it was subjective, and it is, so don't hate.

I use screen protectors. If i didnt my old hero would of been all scratched up. Now on my evo shift i first put the anti-glare screen protector on and did not like because it made the screen look dark even with full brightness on. So I put on the regular one on and it looks much better.

Now if you chose to not use a screen protector and risk the chance of making your 300.00 dollar investment look like crap after a few weeks thats up to you but I highly recomend it. Especialy after what the screen protctor on my old phone looked like.

Up to you, if you feel they are neccessary, or you are not particularly careful with your phones, then you should use them.

I haven't put one on any of my capacitive screened handsets in the last two years, my SGSI is coming up a year old and the screen is pristine.

Same here.... Didn't use one on my HTC HD nor Samsung Galaxy S & Tab.
All are still as NZtechfreak says ~ still just like new.

Just put on a case on. Makes it look cooler and could prevent scratches at times and protects phone. See how this goes? =P

I'd take a really nice extended battery and backcover that evens out the hump on the back. Did the galaxy s even have nice third party back covers? All the ones I saw near launch with extended batteries were just terrible.

Never used a screen protector and last time I used a "jacket" was around Nokia 3310 era. Hate it. Its ugly-defeats the purpose of owning a great looking product. Now on my current phone no protector-everything looks fine on the SE C510. Weirdly, there is a lot of fine particles of sand stuck beneath the screen-looks like it entered from the earpiece region. Annoying to look at when the phone is powered off or dark-when the screen is lit-up can't see it.
