Screen Protectors

i pulled off mine to see if there was a factory fitted one and there was, so i peeled off that one too.
i went to put my other one back on but its covered in crap so need to order some new ones.

so out of experience, what ones do you think are good?

i had a zagg invisishield on my last X10 but it was rubbish, felt too rubbery.

I really really suck at applying them, so I went to the booth at the local mall that sells them and got the girl to put it on. Paid $10 for 1, but 6 months later, still no bubbles in it, no corner peeling and light scratches on the screen from being in pockets and such. And it's smooth, not like the tacky feeling Zagg shields.
I have no idea what company it was that made the shield, but it was cut to fit the x10 perfectly.

I dont understand you people.lol

Why take off the factory default one just to put a crappier one on if the factory one is just fine i mean its pre-installed and perfectly if i might add?

Basically all Sony did was save you some money and time cause applying those things is a huge PITA.

i'm gonna say i think the standard one seems better than any i have used, i wish you could buy replacements because the ones i get feel too plasticy and dont seem quite as clear as the original when i compare mine to my gf's with the standard one fitted.
i bought a few of the cheap ones but dont like the feel as much.

have to say the phone feels a lot better without one at all but i dont want to scratch the screen.

so i guess i want to know if anyone knows where i can buy a replacement factory spec one?
as for fitting them i am a signmaker so fitting stickers is my profession and i can fit them perfectly :D

Mine for one never came with a factory shield. Putting them on isn't too bad, use the trick of applying it in a hot steamy room (bathroom with shower on) and it makes the process pretty easy. The steam keeps the dust particles out of the air.

Pretty sure you shouldn't put electronics in a humid place like a shower with steam i only say this as its how my other phone had it warranty become void.

There is a screen protector already on it?
I thought the only thing stuck on the xperia at the beginning is the label which has some writing on it (which I obviously took off)

I put on another screen protector on top and it just fitted perfectly (although I got a couple of bubbles..)

yes theirs a factory default screen protector if you look you can clearly see something on their.

i glued a quarter inch piece of steel to my screen; havent got a scratch yet.

Hey, I really need help with this. I too doubt that my X10a, purchased from AT&T, came with a factory screen protector. I got hundreds of tiny scratches all over my new screen within a couple days of carrying my phone in my pocket and normal use. I'm thinking AT&T purposely didn't include it so I would buy some of theirs.

If there was a factory screen protector on it, should it be able to be scratched that easily? It's very fragile. The $0.99 screen protectors I have been using since get very dirty, but they do not get scratches. If I look real close, around the edges it looks possible that a very thin layer is present, but I can't get it to come up as if it was a sticker.

Is that the screen protector? If so, how can I remove or repair it? Please help, as it's ruining my experience and I don't have a $100 for a new screen. If it didn't come with one, would that be considered a warranty issue?

my factory screen protector too got scratched within minutes of use. i now have xtreme guard. scratches too but not as bad as the stock one + smudge resistant (that alone is a good argument for me)

exactly! dont understand it either. I put one over the stock one I bought off ebay too. Seems to work fine. I have an AT&T X10a, and it DID come with a factory screen protector. You can see it if you look along the edge of the glass. I also got a free one when I bought my Otterbox impact case.

Can the factory one get scratches? Mine has hundreds of fine scratches that ruin the view, but I do see a tiny edge. I can't get it to come up like the ebay ones. It seems like it was meant to be permanent. I don't want to ruin the screen.

There is deffinately one pre-applied, but it is so perfectly applied, that 95% of X10 users doubted it. It wasn't until someone posted photographs of proof after their phone smashed to pieces lol. Although, 5% of X10 users (the clever bastards like me :D lol) noticed the screen protector as soon as they got the phone.

The pre-applied protector is extremely easy to get scratched. I had always kept my phone and my cigarette lighter in the same pocket, with every phone I owned, and I never had a problem with scratches, but with the x10, on the first day of having my phone, I had only had it in my pocket for a couple of hours, and the screen looked like it had been continuously scraped with a brick. So I removed it and applied a new one, which is extremely difficult to apply. SE must hire screen protector professionals :D

Quick note: Instead of buying one expensive screen protector for about

the factory screen protector that came with my x10 has air bubbles in it :\
i like those screen protectors with a matte coating on top, the screen might look a bit blured but it feels really smooth. moist fingers dont move as smoothly on glossy surfaces as matte surfaces, unless if your fingers are oily, but then again it would smudge

Thanks, exactly the info I needed. Quick question. How did you remove the factory protector? I've only tried picking at the corner with my fingernail, because I wasn't certain what I was picking at. Should I use a razor blade?

Also, I've been using WriteRight universal screen protectors (cheap), after ruining during installation a couple $1 X10 custom fit ones from ebay. I found the way to put them on with NO air bubbles. If it wasn't for the scratches underneath and the edges, you couldn't tell it was even there.

Here's how: Do not peel off the backing and then try and apply the screen protector! Backing should be removed at the same time it is applied, working from one end to the other.

1)The trick is along the top edge of the new protector is a 1/4 inch (.5 centimeter for UK :)) strip/tab that you peel off first. After you peel the top edge off, that tab is the only is the only spot you should touch.
2)Again, do not peel the backing off before trying to apply. Flip it over and align the bottom edge on the tab end with the buttons on the phone. The screen protector should be almost perpendicular to the phone.
3)Peel the tab back just enough to get it started. Slowly peel away the backing from underneath with one hand, keeping the screen protector as straight up and down as possible, while using a credit card with your free hand to smooth over the top of the applied portion of the screen protector.
4)If any air bubbles start, peel back slightly and reapply. As you peel away the backing with one hand, the other hand should be applying it to the phone so that the sticky side is being applied to the phone at the same time the backing is being removed.
5)The screen protector should slowly be going from perpendicular, to a 45 degree angle, to finally parallel as the last of the screen protector is applied. Your fingers should never have to touch any portion except the top surface and there should not be any air bubbles for you to have to force out. :D

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I just peels it off with my fingernail, and as it is a very thick screen protector, it can take a while to get hold of the corner lol

When applying screen protectors, I use my credit card to remove air bubble, works a treat lol

Not sure your joke helped me. I'm back to thinking mine came without a factory screen protector. Yes, I can see a thin edge, but I can't get underneath it, even with a razor blade, and at most it just chips away. :(

Wasn't saying use a credit card to remove bubbles. Saying if you do it right, then you won't have air bubbles. Credit card is just used to allow you to apply the sticky side simultaneously while removing the backing.

Don't use a razor blade, you'll scratch the screen, just use your nail, it takes a while to get hold of the corner, but you will eventually. I actually cut the skin underneath my nail because I couldn't get it under the corner, and the corner ended up stabbing my skin lol

and I didn't say you said that about the credit card, I was just telling you how I do it, and I've never had problems doing it so I won't stop doing it that way

i used a scalpel to remove my factory fit protector, it was on tight but i also use a scalpel professionaly removing stickers from vehicles so i am extremely careful that i dont scratch whatever surface i am working on.
still havent found a protector that feels as nice as the original and i refuse to tempt fate by not using one lol
