Screen scratches

Hi, I got my Desire on Friday and already have couple of light scratches. I can't actually feel them but they're there and they are mostly unnoticeable - you have to be at a certain angle to see them. Annoying, nevertheless, because I was being so precious with it. Never put it in a pocket that had -anything- else in.
So I wonder what caused it. I had just cut my nails on Saturday and no, I didn't file them so maybe a sharp bit scratched it. Or a bit of grit or other tiny bit of crap from my pocket? Any ideas?

I very much doubt that you could scratch the screen with your fingernail even if you really tried to.

Are these scratches diagonal across the screen and evenly spaced as this is the grid which enables the touch screen to work. They aren't actually scratches but in certain light (at an angle in strong sunlight) they are visible.

sorry cant help with the scratches, i bought a pack of 5 screen protectors from amazon, iv used 2 in two months, first one was a bit loose on one corner, but other wise a really good buy for

Invest in a screen protector before you get mire scratches.

I highly recommend Martin Fields.

I have a bit of dust under the actual screen (not under the screen cover) does anyone know of any way to get this out?

thanks

one of my old walkmans got dust under the screen, thankfully there were very small areas where I could get a Cats Whisker in to help remove the dust! it was tricky and took quite a few minutes but worked like a treat in the end. Not got the Desire yet so cant help with areas where Whiskers might fit ;)

I've seen those diagonal lines and unfortunately it's not them! Definitely a scratch, but luckily a light one, will get a decent protector now.

I immediately placed a screenprotector over my desire with some chemistry gloves on and in a dustfree environment. Been perfect ever since and I got some minor almost unnoticeable scratches on my screen after the first day.
Strange though because I was so careful and my pocket really was clean.

I haven't received my Desire yet - I take it they don't come with a screen film, slip case, anything?

Which ones did you guys get, got any links?

A colleague has a case like eBay item 270595181933 for his Nexus One, I'm not sure if it was included by Google or the network gave it to him for having to have had put up with the Storm he had before they gave him the Nexus instead :p

zafonic, thanks for your recommendation but christ that's expensive for a small piece of plastic film. And they want to add p&p on top!

I've spent the last 2 weeks without a screen protector and haven't got any scratches.

I just put one of these on this morning though.

6 PACK LCD SCREEN PROTECTORS FOR HTC DESIRE on eBay (end time 23-Jul-10 11:17:25 BST)

Seem to do the job well and easy enough to apply.

Edit:

Item number = 320552700846

had mine a couple weeks, bought some screen protectors off ebay (not very happy with), ended up taking them off and leaving it bare. Not had one scratch or any dust under screen. worst i have to do is use my glasses cloth to clean marks off. think ive just been lucky tbh lol.

I dropped my Desire and the screen got scratched, and its not a light scratch its a ugly one ... on a white background I see rainbow colors where the scratch is...

The touch works normal. Any idea how to fix it?

The only way to fix scratches on capacitive screens is to replace the screen!

, I wanted a screen protector and a case :)

bah, the forum keeps on breaking my link. Search for item 270595181933.

ever since my old omnia which was scratched to hell ive always bought screen protectors. The current one has a nasty scratch across it which came from some grit getting inside my case! without the protector id be an unhappy bunny :)

U sure? I heard there is a solution that can be applied and polished and the scratches are gone!

There is a liquid polish available that removes light scratches BUT it only works on plastic not glass and as far as i know the screen on the Desire is glass.

As an aside it does work really well on scratched cd's/dvd's

On Capacitive screens the screen will see this as a touch, and you'll have loads of issues.

It's only for non capacitive screens, and the instructions will clearly state that.

I carefully used a little bit of T cut on an xbox 360 game once, when it wouldn't load past a certain point. Wouldn't recommend it for a phone screen though.
