No, not always. But it will reduce the chance of it happening.
The fact is, there is not a case in the world that will 100% prevent damage to the phone. It just depends on too many factor's... how far it fell from, what it fell on (carpet vs concrete, etc), what part of the phone took the initial impact, did it bounce and continue to hit things... so on etc.

I agree, I dropped mine numerous times on hard surfaces. Saturday night mine took a short 3 foot fall on the wood floor and I lost an incredible. Had a zagg screen protector. I will probably get another one cause It made me feel better having it on.
