Well, I dropped my Skyrocket for the first time on its corner...and it shattered my screen....so damn annoying...

Can I get it covered under a warranty?
what are my options?

Manufacturer's warranty won't cover accidental breakage - only manufacturer's defects.

If you have insurance on it, you can get a new one and all you have to do is pay the deductible, which, if you have insurance through AT&T, should be $200.

If you don't have insurance (through AT&T or a third-party) or an "after-market" warranty that does cover accidental damage, then you will probably have to pay full price, or find one on Craigslist or EBAY.

I guess if you have an upgrade on your account, then you could upgrade at the discounted price, but you would obviously have to sign a new 2-year contract. If this were the case, I would think you might want to consider trying to get by in some way until the Skyrocket HD comes out (supposedly sometime before the end of March).

that sucks,
I have ensquared insurance for att gs2 that i had before switching to skyrocket hopefully they won't give me too much prob over it.
I'm gonna stop by @ ATT store tomorrow, just to see if there's something they can do for me, and call ensquared

Good luck. I guess they can deny a claim since it is technically a different phone, but hopefully they will be willing to work with you.

Did you have a case and, if so, what kind? Second broken screen report in a day. Can you describe the drop? Distance? Surface?

^ no case just screen protector,
it was dropped from waist, I accidently snatched earphone cable.

I dropped it in an elevator, but like I mentioned before it was dropped on its corner.

but like I mentioned before it was dropped on its corner.

That bothers me somewhat. Screens this large are going to be more susceptible to breakage regardless of Gorilla anything. My Otterbox Commuter case has a soft, gel inner lining and a hard outer shell. The outer shell doesn't have corners. All four corners of the hard shell are cutout and the only thing protecting the corners is the inner gel liner. The Defender case is solid all the way around. I assume it's more difficult to get on and off.

Phone repair companies advertise $150 to replace screen

Seems expensive but it's a new phone and the screen is probably still real expensive. It will fall as the phone ages. I've done a lot of that sort of work for Palm Pilots, iPhone/iPods, and a few laptops. I've never had to repair one of my own but my adult age children, ex-wife, and girlfriend seem to like to break the things.

update.
Looks like I'll be receiving white Skyrocket tomorrow, they'll overnight it. (apparently black one's on backorder)
It took awhile because I was too lazy to inform them of phone change (gs2 ~> skyrocket) so they sent me gs2, which i had to return and give to proof of purchase/imei swap.

anyways I definitely recommend Ensquared to anyone looking for an insurance. $60 for 1 year 1000 coverage and 75 deductable. good deal and they take good care of its customers.

If you have the AT&T insurance that is $6 or $7 a month, if you filed a claim, say 14 or 15 months after the Skyrocket came out so that it is likely that there have been at least 2 or 3 new phones out since then, would they send you a refurbed Skyrocket, or the newest, comparable phone?

you'll probably end up with skyrocket, unless it's unavailable. also don't they charge you 200 for a deductible???

The deductible amount is relative to the cost of the phone. I think $200 sounds right for the Skyrocket. They have the option to provide you with a refurb. It's expensive but it's better than an $800 kick in the nads.

Yeah, the deductible is $200. I got insurance on the phone because I get reimbursed for my cell phone bill, so I figured it was a no-brainer.

While I'd rather get the benefit of a newer model (should it even happen that I needed to file a claim in the future), but I'd still rather get the same model (even if it was a refurb) for $200 than full price (as Midiman suggested).

Reason I asked is because I chatted with the Ensquared folks today and asked them what would happen should I file a claim on the Skyrocket in month 16 or whatever, and the Skyrocket was no longer available. They said that they have a stock of every phone so 80% of the time, it can be replaced with the same model, even if the model it relatively old. Though he did say that in some cases, they don't have any more stock so you would get a newer, similar model.

Just wondered if AT&T approached it the same way.

Just wondered if AT&T approached it the same way.

Pretty much but I have seen some pretty bizarre interpretations of what they believe is a "similar phone." Back many years ago when I was still carrying Motorola flip phones, i filed the only warranty claim I've ever had to. They replaced a year-and-a-half old 505 with a newer 555 that had lots of newer features. I was pretty happy. Back then the company wasn't run by AT&T though. It was a smaller, regional outfit called Unicel which was bought by AT&T a couple of years ago. They're still paying for that on my account with several grandfathered options.

Back then, 18 months meant there was one newer model out. Now, 18 months means there have been 5 newer models out. My guess is, if you file on a G2, and in 18 months the G7 is out, you're probably not getting a G7... maybe a G3.
