Screen size?

So im getting ready to buy the nexus. I was wondering about the screen size. It says its 4.65 but does that include the buttons at the bottom? From what ive seen they take up almost a 1/4in it looks like. So that means the "viewable" screen isnt as big as it says. If seen youtube movies in landscape and it fills the whole screen. Thats how it should be. Do any of these custom roms have the ability to take those 3 buttons off the screen by swiping down or something? I hope this all makes sense.

Several apps use the auto hide of the nav bar buttons. YouTube, Netflix and MXvideo player are three I can think of. JBsourcery allows you to hide the Nav bar.

Soft keys go away when needed. Like in videos, games(i guess), pictures. They don't really bother me. I kinda hated illuminated Soft keys on galaxy s2. Nexus softkeys is much nicer.

I totally agree. I love the way they look. But if they say the screen is 4.65 but the bottom is a black bar with buttons...its kinda deceiving. If you hold it up to a gs3 it looks much smaller even though its like .15 smaller. On the gnex since the buttons are actually part of the screen, do they include that in screen size? I havent played with it much so i dont really know. Lets say you're browsing the web, that would be a good time for them to go away and have the full screen for browsing. Im just assuming some of the roms have the ability to make the buttons go away with swiping or something.

Or or or is there a way to make the background transparent instead of that solid black? That way the 3 buttons would be there but it wouldnt be black. It would just be the screen. Make sense?

Yes. The dimensions of the screen include the buttons as they are on screen buttons. They are there when you do anything with the exception of apps that are designed to hide them.... as mentioned, things like full screen video like youtube and netflix, and many games. The buttons disappear and the content fills the entire screen. When you are in other apps like the browser, etc. the buttons are present.

Yes, there are ROMS that enable you to get rid of them and probably other hacks that you can do if you are rooted.

Awesome! I hope there's one that can make it transparent. That way the 3 buttons are there, but the black is gone. That would make the screen look sooo much bigger. I know it doesnt matter, but its the whole thing "my screen is bigger than yours"

Edit: Just watched a youtube vid on jbsourcery and there is a setting for navigation transparency but he didnt mess with it so im not sure how it works, but it is there.
