Screen Stays Off when making call...Can't END call

This same problem on a bunch of droids. If it is a software issue hopefully motorola send out an update to correct it.
How many of you have an invishield or screen protector. I notice there is a slot cut out on my screen protector on the sensor on the right side but nothing on the left. I am not saying that is an issue but I am curious.

Hey guys -

I too have had this problem, it just started showing up about a few days ago. I realized today that my "Automatic brightness" option had been disabled. (Settings / Sound & display / Brightness / Turn ON the check mark for "Automatic Brightness")

Now that I have re-enabled Auto Brightness the phone does what it's supposed to when I take it away from my ear. Which is ... When I take the phone away from my ear the phone menu returns so I can end the call, pull up the dial pad, or turn on the speaker phone. All seems to be well again, I'll repost if I find this not to be the case.

Best regards,
Brad

If you guys would listen, I'm trying to tell you (read the 3rd post of this thread, point 3) that some of you are having a software issue. It has NOTHING to do with the battery, with the brightness setting, etc., etc... I'm guessing you have an app that is conflicting with the phone application of your DROID. I only had this issue once, and it was when I had a wacky ROM installed and my phone was crashing like crazy.

I KNOW it is a software issue. I do not have many apps on my phone. I especially do not have a "wacky" ROM installed. I was just simply giving more info on my problem. I believe it is a problem with the OS.

I notice there is a slot cut out on my screen protector on the sensor on the right side but nothing on the left.
I think that is just the consequence of the VZW screen protector. It has 2 cutouts, 1 that doesn't even line up with any sensor or LED on the phone. The protector also doesn't cover the soft buttons. I think it is just VZ selling a protector that "fits" the droid, but isn't made for the droid.

I don't think I've ever seen this problem, but I'll be on the lookout. But pushing power doesn't bring the screen back? That to me is absurd, if for no other reason then just this situation, if the sensor is jacked up.

It's not a screen timeout thing as some have said, because its related to the sensor, not whatever screen timeout is set to.

I don't know if this will help or not. But I'm running Task panel, a task killing app. I was having this problem as well and I noticed after making a call the phone would start the "com.motorola.hiddenmenu" process/app, which was being added to the kill list in task panel. I added it to the ignore list and the problem went away and hasn't come back. Just a thought, if you have a task killer app running.

Well this happened again yesterday, but this time I had another call coming in that I had to take. I turned the phone back down and again it stayed off and I could not end the call I was on and get the new incoming one. What a pain in the ass, and this time I missed a call because of it. I had to shake it basically until it went back on. Awesome.

Mine will flicker on just enought for me to almost get to the key pad then it goes blank again. I can lay it flat and it will come up.. it really effen pisses me off....

The left sensor is definitely the problem. I have now been able to recreate it several times and it works now every time. I know what I was doing. I hold my thumb near the left sensor and must be just enough to cover it. I also sometime go into other apps when on the phone then put the phone back to my ear and it goes black take it away and I have a double problem thumb near sensor and I also go to the left to bring the notification bar down, double whammy. Now that I know I have my hand lower on the phone and go toward the middle or right to bring down notification bar. This is my second phone first was 39/09 this is 52/09 don’t know if sensor is more sensitive but I didn’t have this much problem with the other phone. Buy it is the sensor when I am aware of where my hand is it works right every time. Thank you so much for the left side tip.

I wish there was a "shake" app that when your done with your call, you could shake your phone to wake it up and then press the END button. I guess you could always just wait for the other person to hang up first and then your phone will eventually hang up on its own.

i remember the first time i realized the screen goes off when i'm talking i kept pulling it away to get it to flash back on and i was amazed.
needless to say i barely paid any attention to the call

i just talked to verizon tech about this exact issue and they're sending me another droid........ AND 10% off the next 6 months of service because they value me as a customer. :) he just offered that to me, i didn't ask. allz i wanted was a replacement. dude also sent me a text with android support's #.

now that's good customer service.

Mine's top left. Do you have your directions mixed up? :)

Mine is on the right as well

EDIT: Guess its on the left haha. But when i make a call and go to end it mine goes back to the lock screen and i have to unlock my phone and then end the call and also when i recieve a call it doesnt go through the lock so i have to unlock my phone to recieve a phone call. It used to never do this. I went to verizon before when i couldnt hear out of my phone unless i had it on speaker phone and they did a factory restore(which i was unhappy about) and things havent worked the same with it..I may go to verizon on my day off which is tuesday and have them give me a new one.

???? My light sensor is on the right. I just held my thumb over it and the keyboard backlight came on. I moved my thumb, and it went off.
