Help screen switching on on its own and sd problem

hi all, i dont post here much though i've been lurking around the HD forums for some time now and have got lots of help for other problems i've had since getting the HD, though i cant seem to find any solutions for my current problem.

in a nutshell, whenever i tap the off bottom on the top of the device to switcvh off the screen it switches on intermittently on its own, sometimes after as little as a few seconds, other after an hour or more. this continues for the entirety of the time the device is idle. I thought the problem might be from autosync, which i switched off to no avail, or data - though after disabling wifi and network data the problem persists. im sure there's something im missing though its getting quite frustrating.

i tried a factory reset, moving as many apps and data as i could onto my sd card (using apps --> menu --> remove app --> moving those that i could to the sd card) before doing it. though after restoring to factory settings the device is not recognising any of the apps i moved to the SD. ive since downloaded most of them again and other data (music, videos, picture etc) are recognised normally.

any help?

im currently running 2.3.3 on a desire HD.

It sounds like you have a rogue app running in the background. Does the screen stay on or does it just flash for a few seconds and turn off again?

Alternatively, do you have the screen set to stay on whilst charging? There's an issue on some handsets where a faulty or even dirty USB Port can cause the car panel to activate as the phone thinks it's plugged in. Do you have the screen set to activate when the phone is being charged?
 
The screen only seems to come on for a few seconds and the screen was set tovstay on while charging, though I removed that and it keeps on doing the same thing
