Help Screen Time Out While Charging

I have been trying to sync music to my Thunderbolt recently. I didn't have this problem the first time. When my screen times out while it's plugged into the computer, the SD card is deactivated. On the phone, it shows the lock screen and it says setting up the SD card on the top. This is quite annoying since it happens every minute when I am trying to sync music and I have to unlock the phone for it to work again. Could this have something to do with having a pattern to unlock? The only solution I have found is to set the phone to never time out, but then I have to change it when I unplug the phone.

Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Stay awake (Screen will never sleep while charging)
