Help Screens broken but I need my pictures

I have Samsung Galaxy s4 mini and I recently dropped it and the screen broke and I cant see anything but the phone is still working i.e. I can hear when I get a call or text but I have some very valuable pictures on my phone that I need to get on my computer before I get my new phone.
 
It SHOULD be as simple as plugging the phone into the computer and then copy and paste anything you want from the phone to the PC, using Windows Explorer.
 
i tried doing that but when I opened the folder where all the files should have been there was nothing there.
 
Can't help you there. If you can see the folder and it's empty then the files are gone.
However, did you check both internal and external on the phone? Maybe they are in a folder on the other 'drive'.
