Root Screw you Virgin [Rant/WIP]

So I'm sure you all may have recently gotten the message from VM stating their recent changes to their network. If you didnt, or just dismissed it, here's a quick rundown...
Virgin Mobile will be diverting the majority of their data service to areas with highest demand of customers. This means those areas will be getting higher data rates than the rest of the country. These areas were not disclosed to my knowledge, but it has taken effect as of May 26th if memory serves correct)
I am not in a high traffic Virgin Mobile area and have felt the effects of this change amd it is DRASTIC. My data speeds have been abismal and I just renewed my service. This is completely unfair and I am officially sick of VM's crap. Its been nothing but a headache.
I love the hell out of my Awe and I dont want to give it up, even though I have 3-4 other high end devices at my disposal. I want to continue using it for service, but no longer on VM.
I have been working on porting my device to another carrier and have found the avenues to doing so, but I hit a few snags. I can connect my device to a couple of programs called DFS tool and CDMA Workshop and am working on getting ETS/QPST to recognize it next (shouldnt be too hard) I have been able to successfully enable DIAG mode and read the internal information of the phone. Unfortunately I havent been able to WRITE anything yet.
DFS requires a 16 digit password that I simply cannot find for any ZTE devices, if one exists. CDMA WS just errors when I try to write anything. QPST I havent played with all that much yet, but will be shortly. Ive used these programs extensively to port other devices to carriers, so I'm pretty well versed in using them.
I need any help I can get to willing participants who share my disgust for VM's recent changes. Let's give them a huge finger and tell them to kiss our rear!

You in?

The only thing stopping me from jumping on board with you is the thought of losing my $25/Mo plan. I definitely agree with your point though. I went from 350kb/s (non-throttled) and 35kb/s (throttled) to a whopping 120kb/s (non-throttled) and 8kb/s (throttled) Complete BS in my opinion. They were the best out there for so long, but within the last year, they've gotten more and more restrictive.

Is the password for DFS numbers only? If it is I could probably make a program to bruteforce it. However if its alphanumeric, at 16 chars that would take forever. It might even be possible if its just hexadecimal chars.

Edit: I threw my device in debug mode, installed DFS Tool, fired it up, inputted my SPC/MSN clicked 'Read' on something, then clicked 'Write' on it, and it seemed to work. Does it not prompt you for a password if the changes are the same?

It should read an error in red at the bottom. Try doing something like loading a prl or changing something in the NAM. Just remember what you changed

Relating to VM and their new data policies...meh what can you do? Change carriers and keep on marching if it effects you to the point of making your service unusable. If you can flash your device to to another carrier that's great...but be warned a lot of carriers...Cricket, Metro etc will no longer be supporting CDMA banded devices and networks as early as March 2015. Everyone is going GSM LTE...evolve or perish I suppose.

That would entail giving up this sweet device, and I simply dont want to. My other devices are for play because they have better/bigger screens. Why wouldnt I just use one of those as a DD? Because I carry too much crap in my pocket at any given time. One or them has a broken radio anyway (note to self...back up EFS!) Another speaker is blown and and the last I hate GSM. So just use the Awe because it works. I'm planning on flashing over to PPC or maybe even Boost. We got a couple of new companies at my office that I may look into as well. Anything BUT VM

Sadly CDMA will be a obsolete technology within the next 12 months. I got VM as a way to control my sons data usage...(he was killing me in overages on VZW) so for us, here in Las Vegas service seems no worse or better.

I wrote a PRL with no error, proof below.

Must be my setup. I wasnt able to. If what youve got going on holds true, DFS may allow me to program service for PagePlus. Yes its only 1x without a donor phone (no problem for me as I have a ton of Palm Pixis at my disposal) but its $30 a mo. and there is better coverage in my area.
I'll have to check it out, thx Spot

Since you brought up PagePlus, have you heard of Ting? It a MVNO of Sprint just like VM, and seems cheaper than PP. Also what do you mean by "only 1x without a donor phone"?

I was thinking about putting mine on ring plus, but i have not bothered to look into it just yet. Sounds like there is a lot of complicated steps, can you recommend a place for me to start learning about how to do something similar to what you are doing? if it isn't allowed to be mentioned you can pm me the info instead :)
thanks

This is unacceptable . It's discrimination . It's favoring certain areas and customers . As I understand this has only been done by virgin because the other companies that use sprint towers are not affected . I would immediately write a letter of displeasement and drop them like a hot potato . I'm trying to send a pic that's 900KB to my son on his virgin mobile phone and he can't even download that . My son , his girlfriend and I will be dropping Virgin mobile immediately . You just cut off your own head Virgin mobile . Goodbye ! PS; you're not a virgin anymore , you're a slut !

Probably to do with cloning esns probably not the best place to be talking about that lol.

You would be referring to flashing a Sprint S3 to Boost/VM. No, I meant pulling the HA/AAA keys from a phone to get full 3g service. If these keys aren't programmed, youll only get 1x data. I wish I could pull them from my Awe, but guess not

Cloning is not allowed. Flashing/unlocking is touchy, but not illegal. I have tutorials on my YT channel showing step-by-step how to flash a Galaxy Nexus to PagePlus. Another for unlocking a Droid Razr M/HD from Verizon to use on GSM companies. Even wrote tutorials on XDA. If THAT was illegal, id be a wanted man >_<.
Its also not very complicated at all, so long as your familiar with the software. I'm looking into other companies, like Ting mentioned above and Ring Plus. If I'm successful, I'll write up a tut.
