Root Screwed. Help. Please.

After reading some of the posts on the forums I've come to this conclusion-- I am an idiot. Now that we have established that, I really REALLY need help. I rooted my droid 3, uninstalled the wrong apps, didn't make a backup of the rom. I keep getting the "Sorry! The process com.motorola.service.main has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.I can't get past this message.

I tried restoring it to factory and wiping the data and while it looks like it restored the phone, the message is still there and I'm stuck.

How do I undo the mistakes and get it back to factory (or any other useful state). Please help.

Thank you.

Do you know which version of the system software was on the phone prior to rooting? In other words, did you accept the over-the-air update earlier this year to version 5.7.906, or are/were you still on version 5.7.894 when you rooted?

Hi Doogald- I did the OTA earlier this year. The Droid 3 is a verizon, not sure if that helps.

Ok, I think that your best bet is to use Overlayer's one-click Windows application that will return your phone to sort-of stock (you'll need to do the OTA again after running this). The instructions are pretty straightforward, but ask away if you are unsure.

You can find it here at xda-developers.com: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686911

You'll want the one you see a few paragraphs down, where is says:

1-Click .EXE Method:

Download:HERE

After you get everything back to stock, I'd suggest that rather than mess around with the stock software, instead you should install the Safestrap bootstrap and recovery, switch Safestrap to safe mode, and then install a stock ROM in Safestrap and *then* you can debloat, etc. Q9Nap at xda has a download for Safestrap here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554916

But, one step at time...

Thank you doogald! You are a genius!!!

I'm having one more issue now, it's asking me to activate my phone and I don't have service. I recently get a new phone and this one is going to be used for internet / gaming / GPS functions only.

Any suggestions of help is greatly appreciated. I am pretty new to the root / modding world (as you can tell by my rookie missteps).

Thank you for your patience / assistance.

Well, you can always cancel activation and, at the initial setup screen, tap the four corners of the screen clockwise (tap upper left, then upper right, then lower right, then lower left), which will bypass initial setup. Then you can go into settings:accounts and set up any accounts that you want. Each time you restart the phone it will prompt you to activate, but you can then hit cancel.

Or, you can activate the phone, get it set up, and the reactivate your new phone.

Thank you so much. You have taken a day that started off pretty crappy and turned it around. I really appreciate all of your help! I'm up and running.
