Help Screwed up my SMS on my phone. Please help.

I installed GO SMS on my phone and love it. After that i moved the MMS.apk from my app folder to my sd card and deleted the one in my app folder with root explorer. After that GO SMS stopped working properly. I know, I'm an idiot, whatever. The problem is I can't reinstall MMS.apk. It tries then tells the the app was not installed. What do I do?

This did not work.

After trying it then removing the apk again I go to manage applications it's showing Messaging as being installed but it's taking up 0.00KB and I there is no apk in the system/app folder. I'm thinking that this could be why it won't let me reinstall mms.apk but I don't know how to force the phone to recognize that messaging isn't actually installed.

Edit: I forgot to mention one step that I did. In messing around with this I attempted to install a mms.apk that I found on the web that said it was the stock android one. That failed to install but maybe it's the reason that messageing is showing as installed when it's not. I don't know. I just want my messaging to work again or else my girlfriend is going to be pissed :(. She doesn't understand why I'd play with my phone like this and is always telling that I'm going to break it and be sorry.
 
2 things
Make sure that your system folder is r/w
Make sure that there is a mms.odex file in there as well.
 
You might have to also set the permissions correctly on that apk. Just look @ any other "system" apk like browser.apk and make it match.

Offhand I think its rw-r--r-- which is...644 in unix terms

Then reboot and hopefully it works.
 
only problem is that i didn't save the stock mms apk to my sd card. . stupid i know. so could you please post up or send me the stock file so i can try and fix my phone?

somebody uploaded all the Metro stock apps just for this scenario. I don't have the time to look right now, but it's here somewhere in this section. If you don't find it I'll look tomorrow.
