Help SD Card "breaks" IT e-mail policy

Webwbr

Lurker
First - I'm new to android, so I hope I don't use the wrong sytax, if so please forgive me.

I have a new SGS2 and I'm enjoying it very much (coming from BB). I MUST be able to link this to my company's e-mail server via activsync. And I can.... however if I put an SD card in my phone, the policy (is that what it is called?) "breaks". I get an error that the "policy is already installed" and then it stops syncing. Saying I need to restart the phone. Upon restart it is not fixed, then I have to remove the account and add it back in.

It is working fine now, but I'd really like to have an SD card in this phone.

Anybody else run into this? Seems very odd to me. If I can get my hands on a different SD card I'll see if that fixes it. I did format the SD card that was giving me fits.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Welcome to Android, what took you so long?!??!? I've been a BB for over 10 years, until iphone 3G came out and then converted to SG2 last month and haven't touch BB since!!! :)

My background is in IT Support, and I and my colleagues enable/disable the ActiveSync policies here in the office for both IOS (iphone/ipads) and Android devices (TRIAL only for IT Support team members). The number of POLICIES that ActiveSync employs are numerous in nature and for our company the polices are added/modified in both MS Exchange Consoles and Active Directory.

Unfortunately, my unit works find with the SD card installed for my office, but you will need to work with your IT Support team to see if they are willing to work with you to enforce/lighten the security to allow you to use your phone with the SD card installed... Each company will have their own rules and policies and unfortunately it seems that your IT Support team has decided to lock down your phone combo...

Speaking from experience though this is not a simply matter of FLIPPING a switch to enable/disable the SD card... It could be buried with some obscure policy that doesn't directly relate to SD cards but is needed for another feature/lock down/permissions... At any case, you will have to somehow convince the IT team, that it is important that they allow your device to work and that you'll VOLUNTEER to be a guinea pig to have your device tested... Luck of the dice will determine if the IT Team will be nice enough to go through another round of device testing for your phone...

Maybe if you offer to buy the team lunch/dinner that may sway them, but unfortunately, it is literally looking for a needle in a haystack to find the right combination/switch/toggle/option that will allow your SD card to work...

For my office here are OUR settings:

Active Directory for Users & Comuters (UserId/Member of)
ActiveSync Allowed (Org Unit)

Exchange Console (Mailbox Features):
Exchagne ActiveSync -Enabled / ActiveSync with Encryption (Properties)

Good Luck!

Thank you kindly... I've already got the IT folks on my side. I'm employed in the field so when I get to my HQ in early December I'll see if we can play around with it. they set up up with "Good Enterprise" and it works fine with the SD card, but I prefer to use the native e-mail, tasks and calendar client on the phone. I'll report back if we can figure out which policy it is causing it.

Best regards,
