Help SD card causing boot problem

My phone (HTC Desire GSM) restarted itself yesterday and keeps getting stuck at the Alpharev splash screen. When I physically remove the SD card and restart, the phone boots up fine (with CM7 ROM).

I can read the SD card fine on my laptop, therefore have to presume I just need to perform some form of recovery on the SD card for the benefit of CM7. What action is recommended, rather than having to fully reformat my SD card.

Thanks.

Are you using any ext partition? Your laptop won't see that, so if there is a problem there then the laptop won't show it up. Though if there were anything vital on there I'd not expect the phone to boot without it.

What's funny is getting stuck that early. The fat32 partition of the sd card isn't read that early in the boot (i.e. before the bootanimation), so it seems odd. Maybe some problem mounting.

Can you mount the card when in recovery? That's the one test I can think of. And please give us some information about your setup (many apps moved to SD? Using any form of a2sd with a second partition).

TBH unless we can identify the cause it may well come down to reformatting.

Thanks for the pointer toward ext (as yes, I am using ext4 partition). I have now reformatted sd-ext in Recovery, and managed to select 'mount' for all entries shown in list. Phone booting up with SD physically present now.
