Help SD card dismounting (when not wanted)

ported

Lurker
Hi folks - first post - new phone...:D

just read the template

Android Version: 2.2

Issue:

sorry if this is an old question but found nothing in my searching..

I have HTC desire on 2.2 - aquired it partly to replace mp3 system in the car so am keen to be able to charge from the car as well as listen to music...BUT

when connected to HTC mains power is ok, the sd card stays mounted - when connected to a PC sd card dismounts and mounts on PC (even if default is charge only...) but have found a work around for that (choose mount as drive than go back to charge only seems to work, BUG??) But in the car it dismounts and will not mount again - have tried 2 diffrenet USB supplies but still not able to caharge and play music...

any one any ideas as to why this happens? I thought (non data) USB supplies were just 5v @ 500ma or some such so why the difference from mains to car? I keep trying it in disbalief but that seems to be how it is..

thanks for any help/tips

cheers Ported

Definitely sounds like some sort of bug, my sd never unmounts when i plugged in charge only... Course i have the incredible but devices are very similar software wise...???

Have you WinAmp installed?
WinAmp does auto-mounting via USB on PC.
In it's setting you can this feature untick.

EDIT: iSyncr and Double Twist have auto-mounting too.

I have tried WinAmp thinking it would help - but it did not - now using powerAMP but all I have tried seem to behave the same

you have uninstalled winamp?

if so then this sounds like a dodgy connection with the cable
have you got another microusbcable you can use?

have unistalled WinAmp and tried 3 cables and 2 sd cards - looks like a bug to me - just hoping for a work around. just read somthing suggesting you can only force mounting if on as root but I am not happy to hack around with the phone just yet.

its almost as if the mains HTC USB adapter sends a data message ("I am HTC??") where others do not...

Maybe this is possible solution: The data pins should be connected :)

I knwow the HTC chargers all have connected data pins.
And the spiral cord of the HTC car charger has connected data pins, too.

Buy a HTC car charger (cc200).
So you'll get in your car the same conditions as at home with your HTC wall charger :)

EDIT: This connected data pins are for the phone the message "I am HTC??"

caved in and purchased htc car charger (10 pound sterling @ amazon) and all is now well as suspected - WARNING - in my case anyway the curly lead supplied with this will NOT act as a spare data lead..

thanks for help - a sorted Ported.
