Help SD card full - without an SD card!

nv1z

Lurker
My wife's Droid 3 keeps giving "SD card full" message regardless of what is attempted. I even unmounted the SD card, physically removed it, did a battery-pull reboot and...guess what? "SD card full" still pops up - without an SD card!

WTF?!?

Does this error constantly come up, or only at boot? I'm unsure how to interpret the 'keeps giving' part of your message....

if it is at boot only, then see which apps are started up and start looking at the settings for those apps to see if one of them is trying to write to a non existent location / unwritable location (such as a system folder that requires root privileges to write to).

WTF?!?

It doesn't have an SD Card in it?

If a reboot isnt gonna do it, ya may have to go last resort and factory reset the phone.

I'm going to take a stab that her internal memory is full. It may be seeing this as an SD card. I'm not sure if it does. I can't remember, but I know there is internal memory.

Yes, it does. That is likely what it is. The internal memory looks to Android as if it is an external SD card. In fact, it's mount point is called /sdcard - the external card is called /sdcard-ext.

It's referring to the internal sd card, almost all new android phones are setting up this way. Connect it to a computer and transfer off most of the pics and videos.
