Accessories SD Card help..

Hi Everyone,

I'm sure the powers that be will move this thread to the abyss that is the Accessories section, but I was hoping I might get some views/answers in the main section first. I'm looking to get a new SD card. I currently have an 8gb that I took from my old Eris and I'm constantly having to clean and move files. Plus I'd like to put all my music on my Inc and sell my i*od once and for all. My question is which card should I buy? I'm not looking to spend over $100, but also don't want garbage. I've heard Sandisk is the top of the line, but what about brands such as patriot, PNY and kingston are they any good? What's the deal with the different classes of cards? Do they matter all that much? Maybe this will make it easier....if you had under a $100 to spend and could buy one 32gb SD card, which would you purchase and why?

Also, just to be sure I know what I'm doing, to transfer everything over from the old to new, I just copy my current card to my PC and copy everything to the new card, correct? I'm 99.9% sure this is exactly the process, but for some reason I feel with an expensive purchase that I should be that extra 0.01% sure haha. Thanks in advance everyone

The higher the class number, the faster the sdcard performs....in theory. Some of the cheaper brands class 6 cards have been reported to be slower than a top of line class 4. As for brands, I have a Transcend Class 6 16gb card that seems to work well. I know it's faster than my Sandisk 8gb Class 4 card because transferring files to and from my phone to my PC goes faster on the class 6 card. As for quality, don't really know if TRascend is a good brand or how it compares to others.

Yes, just copy the contents of the old card to the PC and then copy back once you insert your new card.

I have used Sandisk, Trascend, PNY, and Kingston all with no problems.

I usually shop Amazon.com or Newegg.com as they have really cheap prices on electronics and accessories. If you buy a memory card in the store you will be paying 2-5x more just for it being in the store.

Also you are correct with what to do on the PC.

I completely agree with the higher in store prices. I'll definitely be shopping online, and probably at Amazon. So I guess I should just go for one of the above brands and get the cheapest? I think I'll try and get a class 6 if it's not too expensive. Is there anyway to find out the class of my current SD card without removing it?

I feel like I ought to mention that you should have your PC set to show hidden files & folders when you copy/restore the SD card data. That way you're sure to get the system files for the phone.
BTW, COPY items from the card don't MOVE them. That way if you have a problem with the new card you can always go back to the old one.

Ok, thanks! Just to be sure, as I've never done this before, right click file>properties>attributes.. read only and hidden should be checked?
