Help SD Card Mounted ReadOnly After 2.2 Update

id try that to test. i think the re writes and low memory are messing up the cards file structure....

I don't really want to. I use Newsrob a lot.

I don't think it's Newsrob's fault, because we're seeing some signs that there is a deeper problem with the SD card at the moment. I could switch Newsrob to Phone storage.

Certainly my brand of choice.

@Andy, Sorry I thought your error was permanent not intermittent. Everything I said can be ignored ;)

Well, the Newsrob errors are intermittent, but the SD card seems to behave permanently weird.

1. Astro can't delete files
2. Win7 can't delete files, nor can it format the card.
3. Two different XP machines won't even detect the card.

I am setting Newsrob to local storage. However, I don't know what you mean by "low memory". My phone has huge amounts of memory still available in all three categories.

i was referring to the SD card here. i had thought you stated you had 647 mb left however that is PHONE memory. i thought you stated CARD MEMORY. my error!

so you have 14gb left on the SD card? heck you dont have anything on there?

Yeah, pretty much nothing on the card. Newsrob was using it. 3 or 4 other apps are using it for storage, but basically it's wide open. That's why I can't believe that it's stressed out from overuse. Plus, it was FINE until I installed the OTA Froyo upgrade.

yeah i hear you. the card i use was just fine until froyo... im sure goggle et al are aware of this. the same day i was looking for answers i saw several people post the exact same issue across forums over the web.

however at this point if you can not access the card then it may be a dud. are you within 30 days? give amazon a call and perhaps they could work with you and the seller.

No, unfortunately I bought this card when the Incredible came out originally, which was way more than 30 days ago. I pre-ordered the Incredible so I got it on Launch Day, along with this card.

understood. i think the card may have failed due to the read/writes it has undergone. it could also be ONE file or folder causing the file structure of the CARD to be unusable. this is what happened to me this last time....

keep trying bro. try a card reader on a different machine if you can....

Well, I've tried it on three different PCs, plus the phone. I don't think that a fifth machine is really going to be the magic bullet.

Got the same error yesterday after updating to Froyo. Found out that a possible fix is to get a mini SD(with adapter for the micro SD card of course) USB card reader or a card reader that already supports micro SD and plug it to a PC. One of my vids got corrupted and that's what was causing the card to be unreadable. I was able to open the card up as usual and delete the video and save everything else. Then just formatted the card, placed it on the phone, formatted off the phone again, and then plug in the phone to the PC with the card inside and copied everything back over to it. Works all good now. Hope this helps someone. Worked for me and apparently several others around the web with this issue. Found this solution after a lot of "googleling". LOL. On an HTC Incredible BTW. :)

that was the same behavior i had and thats what i did the first time. however the issue came back a second and third time.

your post is much appreciated!

Thanks. Will report if it continues to happen. Crossing my fingers that it doesn't. So far i've transfered several gigs back and forth and has been holding up, but who knows, technology is unpredictable sometimes.

I woke up to this problem this morning (Incredible with OTA 2.2 installed a few days ago). I have maybe 3 pictures on the SD card. Nothing else. I can't reformat from the phone so I'll try from my PC.

hey all had this issue too...

got froyo update 2 days ago for my Desire and today was the first time i connected to my pc.. and bang!!!! read only on sd card!

I DID NOT HAVE TO FORMAT TO FIX THIS!!!

i popped the sd card into a card reader as the disire would not even let me read it...
under windows opened my computer right clicked on the sdcard "K" in this instance, went to properties/tools/error checking...
ticked both box's auto fix errors & scan and attempt to fix errors...
10 mins later said had errors that had been fixed...
popped back in the desire and weyhay!!! sorted!!!...

i have an 8 gig samsung and to backup reformat and restore would have taken much longer....

hope this helps....:)

interesting tip. i had not thought about using windows error checking. i have had this happen 3 times personally and i suspect it may happen again. i have a 16gb card and stock unrooted and froyo'ed... ill use your method next time.. :)

I mentioned that earlier but unfortunately Windows found no errors in this instance
I tried the same when I was having problems with my 32GB Samsung card. Although no errors were found in my case it did seem to solve the problem (temporarily, and I suspect the real 'fix' was that the card was reseated and allowed to cool off..) I think the Desire has some serious issues with transferring files to the SD card as I've tried a series of ways to transfer and they've all ended sooner or later with a crash or corruption or the mounted as read only error.

i think it has more to do with froyo, installing apps to the card and the constant writes and re writes that is causing some file structure issues on the card. i dont think its a physical issue or a handset specific issue. cant prove that but based on what i have seen in this thread this issue has happened across a variety of situations...

This seems to have done the trick for me too, so thanks!

PS Mine also looks like it might have been a corrupted file that caused it as the scan picked up a file that needed to be removed

Hi,

I had this problem and resolved it seemingly fine for me without wiping the card.

I used a caddy to connect my MicroSD card to my computer (Windows) and did a chckdsk on it. It fixed two problem files. I then deleted those files from the card and things have been ok.

I did this because a copy of files to the MicroSD card had some issues and I figured it must have been the writing that had some sort of error. Anyway, good luck with your issues and I hope mine remain resolved!

Regards,
fb

Weird, I've only just read the post above mine and it did exactly the same. Wow!

I had this exact issue with my SD Card (the one from HTC - 8gb) and my fix was a battery pull and re-seat the card.

I'm UnrEVOked/forever with the new FPS uncapped deodexed ROM and have done a number of nandroid backups/recoveries just yesterday and today.

Suppose it's a good idea to do a full backup of that card and maybe even a clean format, too.

Meh, that wasn't the last of it. kept coming up again and again. Wouldn't even recognize the card in an SD adapter on my computer. Finally got the "mount USB" option in recovery mode to work, copied EVERYTHING off, formatted the card using FAT32 (non-quick mode, which took a damn long time) and then copied EVERYTHING back (minus some of the big 100meg+ image files) and it all seems fine now.

Bonus points for me for getting a complete snapshot of my SD card. :o

Hope others have better luck!
