SD card not regognized at ClockworkMod boot

Newbie
Hi,

was trying to installe Cyanogenmod and things went wrong :(

- I rooted my Galaxy S 2 "2.6.35.7-I9100JPKG2-CL342890" using "DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su" Hurray!
- Backed up my apps and system files using Titanium Backup.
- I installed "ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4"
- downloaded the nightly file "cm_galaxys2_full-116.zip" and copied it to the external SD card. The card is a "Transcend Ultimate 16 GB microSDHC class 10. I plugged the card to my PC, copied the zip file and then back to the phone.
- Started the "Flashing CyanogenMod" process
- The Optional: Select backup and restore to create a backup of current installation on the Samsung Galaxy S II. should have been standard.... I unfortunately skipped this optional step. I did not even see it :\
- After "Wipe data/factory reset" and "Wipe cache partition", I could not install the CM since the SD card did not show :(

So now I have to wait to get a new card that may work better. I was not able to copy the file to the main memory since the phone will not boot and will not show when plugged to PC via USB to copy the file (gets detected but cannot access it via a file manager).

So my options seem like:
1) wait till stores open and buy a more common card
2) Use Odin to replace the ROM with "I9100JPKG2_Kernel"
3) Start Kies and plug to PC and hope it will prompt to restore/update firmware.
4) Get some miraculous solution from this nice forum like using Odin with CM mod (no idea if it is possible).
5) take the phone to some shop...

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Install from your external sd card isn't a feature on cwm4. It was only added in cwm5 so if you move the file to your internal sd you should be able to flash it. You shouldn't have any problem rebooting your phone as the factory and cache wipe won't of removed your old firmware.

Is there a way to copy the file from external SD card to internal SD memory?

I tried the option "mount USB storage" and waited in the menu (so not to unmount), then connected to PC via USB. The phone was recognized but I could not see any disk to access. It was recognized as a modem!

I may have made an extra mistake. When I tried to browse for the .zip file, I clicked the "Update.zip" file which was in the root directory thinking it is the one (human error!). I tried the reboot recovery and when I boot the phone, it reaches the Samsun logo and hangs there.

Odin ID:COM not turning yellow after several minutes. Can it be a USB driver issue? I have latest Kies installed (but all applications are not running) and I tried the "Samsung_Mobile_USB_Driver_V1.3.800.0.msi' too. Will try to reboot PC too.

Is there a way to get this right?

I think it is the same reason I could not see the phone Internal SD memory.

Thnx

I can only think of a couple of things that could be the problem.
1. Is your phone in download mode? Sorry got to ask the obvious.
2. Have you tried a different USB port?

I followed the guide.

- All Kies*.exe apps were killed.

- Phone is booted to Download Mode, with the screen saying "Downloading......"
- When I click to the PC Toolbar icon to eject (after waiting for several minutes), the option is "Eject Gadget Serial".
- Tried another USB and Odin went yellow this time.
- clicked Start and the log is:

BUT the phone still hangs at Samsung Animation, then Logo then animation loop. I reinserted the SIM card and no change.

That's a kernel you're flashing. Download the xwkj3 firmware zip (don't worry that it says Australia) from the link I gave you. Flash that with Odin and you should be good to go.

Do I need to flash the kernel too (using the XWKJ3 Stock Kernel Kernel_I9100XWKJ3.exe) or will the firmware (GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKJ3_I9100XEUKH2_I9100XXKI3.exe) cover everything?

One more thing, there are two "xwkj3", one that says XEN (Netherlands) and another one in the "Frankenstein Firmwares". The stock kernel for both seems to be the same.

Thnx

Just flash the firmware. That should put you back to stock so you will then be able to root again and then install the ROM.

After your phones up and running I would recommend rooting with the cfroot method instead of the way you did the first time round as it seems to cause less problems in the long run and to be honest it's the simplest way I've tried.
[07.11.2011][CF-Root 5.0] KE*, KF*, KG*, KH1/3/4, KI2/3/4/8, KJ1/2/3 - su+bb+CWM4/5 - xda-developers

Your firmware will be kj3 so use cfroot kj3 in post number 7.

I Downloaded the firmware "GT-I9100_XEN_I9100XWKJ3_I9100XENKJ1_I9100XXKI4.exe" (406 MB), extracted it and flashed the phone using Oden as mentioned. The process took few minutes.

The phone rebooted, green text from Android about extracting applications, then it rebooted again and went back to the Samsung animation and logo loop :s

I placed the SIM card and nothing changed...

Is it possible I have to repeat it again or do I have to flash it with its default firmware "jpkg2"?

To be honest I'm a bit stumped. Although just out of curiosity try again without removing anything from your phone. I've never removed the Sim or anything else and its always worked

Tried it again with the SIM card in place with the same result. I will download and try the "jpkg2" firmware. Although the firmware "JPKJ2" is newer, I want to try the most compatible option. My default internet also went out earlier today and I am using my backup prepaid 3G service. Talk about having a bad day...

Installed the JPKG2 firmware twice and the stock Kernel with the same end result of the Galaxy S logo and animation loop. This is frustrating. I will search for more solutions till tomorrow and then will take it for repair. I think that root file "Update.zip" did the damage and was probably placed there by Samsung as a trap for n00bs like myself.

One more reason to go for an IPhone on my next purchase...

I'm sorry I couldn't help. I've only suggested things which have worked for me in the past. I'm really out of ideas so I'm going to tag out and let other people try.
One last thing have you factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (inside advanced menu of cwm). And now I'm out of ideas.

Found this info and the solution for the animation loop seems to be solved. The process went as follows:
1) Turn off your phone. Unplug it from your computer etc

2) Hold down home, power, and volume UP. This will enter recovery mode. If you are using CF-Root, you'll get CWM recovery. If not, you get stock recovery. It doesn't matter which appears.

3) Choose to wipe user data from the menu.

4) Turn off the phone by long-pressing the power button.

5) Prepare ODIN on your PC by using task manager to kill any KIES processes, then open ODIN.

6) Put your phone into download mode (home + power + volume down)

7) Plug your phone into the computer using the factory USB cable. The leftmost box should go yellow and an ID number will appear.

8) Flash a stock ROM from those available in ODIN format, and the phone will boot correctly.

now back to the start, but at least I don't have to waste another day for repair.

Thanx again
