SD card problem (apps disappear)

Hello,

When I plug my phone to my computer in order to copy files across to my SD card I am aware that during this process the SD card is not accessible on the phone.

When I finish copying and unplug the cable it takes at least 10 minutes for my apps which are on the SD card to appear in the app drawer again. It never used to take this long.

I have re-formatted the SD card and copied all my files back onto it in case this fixed the problem but it hasn't.

Does anyone else have this problem and is there any way to fix it?

(Note - the same thing happens when I turn the phone on as well)

Thanks,
Sam

That does sound rather odd esp. as the 'core' of the apps will still be on the phone.

Are you using the standard 2.3 App2SD, App2SD+ or something else?

Are you changing the connection type on the phone or ejecting the SD card on your pc before unplugging the cable.

Where did you get the SD card? How long did it used to take?

I am using the standard 2.2 App2SD as well as the adb fix to force apps to install on the SD card (which I did about 9 months ago)

It was fine for months then recently this problem started.

Once I finish copying I use windows to 'safely remove hardware'

I've had the SD card for a year now and has been fine for ages. I don't remember how long it used to take, only that I've noticed that it now takes a long time.

How long should it take for the SD apps to appear in the app list after unplugging?

I'm not familiar with this problem, but have you tried mounting your SD-card directly to your computer and checking for errors? On vista you have to right click on the device, click properties, extra's and finally "check for errors". Macs have a similar option to find such errors.
Also, are you using Dolphin Browser HD? It seems to be the root of all my SD-card problems, and especially if the "cache to sd card" option is turned on, although that usually results in a "mounted read-only problem".

I will do the errors check.

I am using Dolphin HD and I do have cache to SD card set. I am going abroad for 2 weeks so will play with the Dolphin settings when I get back and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks,
Sam

I had to try quickly!

I turned off the cache to SD card option and then connected my phone to the laptop and copied a few files across. After un-plugging the phone all my SD apps appeared again within about 30 seconds.
After doing a test with my wife's Wildfire S which she only got last week around 30 seconds seems to be the normal time for them to re-appear again.

I guess i'll leave that setting turned off then! Thanks again for the suggestion.

I cannot believe that this isn't a more common problem.

Sam

No problem :)
If you encounter any other SD card issues (before you call me a pessimist you should know I haven't been able to run the damn thing for over a week without dozens of battery pulls :p) you may want to reinstall it without moving the app to your SD card. Seems to have solved my last problem (phone freezing within seconds after rebooting).
