Root SD card problems after 2.2

So I got tired of waiting for Samsung to release froyo so I decided to install a stock froyo ROM, everything went well except for a couple of issues, I've posted on xda about this but didn't get far with it, figured I would try here

After installing it, both SD cards are coming up as write protected already formatted my external and it was the same thing, tried the card in another phone and it was fine, so this us something on the OS side of things, so after some searching I found this on xda Internal/External Sdcard Mounting Fix - for all 2.2 roms - *11/20/10* - xda-developers

Now the problem is that anytime I try this I get an error message, same error message when I tried to install a custom ROM hoping that that would fix it too, E: Error cache/ sd (Status 2) I've tried all this using CWM because after doing the stock froyo ROM I can no longer get into recovery or download mode with any combination of the 3 button combo, so I can't try this with odin either

Anyone else have this problem, or any ideas that may help?

Some SD cards have a little bitty switch on them to make them write protected. If you don't have anything important on there you could use odin and the proper roms and stuff to try and repartition the internal memory if that may be part of the issue. Let me know if your intrested and i'll gather some links for you.

EDIT: Missed the end of your post where you said you can't get into download mode or recovery. I remember seeing a link somewhere about a possible fix but I don't remember what thread I saw it in :(. And are you sure your holding the right buttons for download mode?

I have another problem since updating via keyes (I've got a Galaxy S).

You'll have to excuse my laymens terms as I often read these things and have no idea what you guys are talking about :P

I've got an external SD card and when I used to plug my phone into the computer and select mass storage mode it came up with the phone and the card and when I selected keyes it used to only come up with the phone. Now what happens is the card comes up on the keyes option (or media player option) but doesn't come up in the mass storage mode.

This is a problem for me because (for some reason) I can't play music directly on my computer unless I sync it. I don't want to do this as I'm using a work computer and I shouldn't really add all my music onto it as we already have slow computers. I used to be able to access the card directly through the mass storage mode and be able to drag all the folders over to Windows Media.

I hope that made some sense, and thanks for any help.

where is the contacts folder stored. i mean, i want to copy it from the internal data. i used to do this with windows mobile called a pim. it can then just be found, renamed, the phone reset, and then all the contacts dissapear, and the phone makes a new pim which is blank until you paste the original again.
can anyone tell me the file name or type . i tried sbu but found nothing. i have root explorer but dont know what i m looking for on android 2.2

Sounds like a certain setting that shows what mode you want to put the phone in when you plug it into the computer. Go to settings> applications > USB settings then select ask on connection. Thats how I had mine set until I rooted and installed a custom rom.

Ya Ive tried that, the switch was not in write protected mode, plus the card is only showing up as write protected on the SGS, I tried it in my wifes Pooberry and its fine I can copy and delete on it, funny part is, if I put it in mass storage mode it will say write protected, only way I can copy to it is if I put in in Kies mode, but dont launch Kies and let windows open it as a device, then I can copy to it, so its definitely not write protected since I can write to it

As far as recovery and download modes, volume up, home button, power button for recovery... used to work, now it doesnt, volume down, home button, power button used to work for download, now it doesnt, tried all possible combinations as far as letting go of power once the Galaxy logo appears, holding the whole time and so on and so on, so because of this I cant use Odin, I do have CWM installed and that is the only way I can get into recovery, unfortunately I cant get into download that way... as far as I know

The only 2 other ways I know of are through ADB which I may try this weekend or by making a resistor to physically put it into download mode

As far as any help you could provide Ill take it since I havent gotten any further with it :)

If I can get it into download I was thinking Id just wipe it a do a new custom ROM

PS Im still a noob with this stuff Im learning as I go ;)

Edit ok sweet I just tried doing it though ADB and it works that way too, I can get it into recovery and download that way.... now just gotta figure out how to flash a ROM through Odin

Do you know of any Odin based custom ROMs?

I've got it so that whenever I plug it in it asks which connection I want, and I can select whichever I like.

My main problem is that when I go into a mode that I can actually see the files (Kies or Media player) through explorer, I can't drag them to WMP or anything like that, I just want to play them on the computer directly off the phone. I used to not be able to see them when I was in Kies mode (only in Mass Storage Mode, but now I can see them only in Kies, not Mass Storage mode.

Not sure if that makes better sense or not?

Also, any idea what rooting (the phone version :P) is as I read people talking about it all the time but a. I have no idea what it is and b. I'm not sure whether I should be doing it at all as, while I'm not computer iliterate, I'm no expert either.

If your phone has allshare on it just use that and it has to be on wifi. I have tested it out before I installed a custom rom and it worked great.

Eugenes froyo is odin ready. Here is the link.

Nice, thanks dude, I also have a post on xda, from the advice Im getting there they are saying to reflash to a stock ROM, then do it through CWM

If I can find a stable stock ROM 2.1 or 2.2 then I think I will go in that direction since they are saying Im creating a recipe for a soft brick by trying to Odin a ROM when my current ROM has issues

I have the stock 2.2 ROM I used but I dont wanna use that one since it has led me to these problems, do you know of any links to a stable 2.1 or 2.2 ROM?

In that case read my post in this thread. All the links and instructional video is in there for you. The only difference is that I have included some non odin ready roms in there so it won't be the size I say it is in that post anymore. It will be around 1GB or so.

EDIT: Also I do not remember if eugenes froyo includes clockwork mod recovery so you might end up having to flash it manually once you get setup using rom manager.

What's allshare? I tried searching for it on the market but the only things that came up are 'Conspiracy to Rule the World' and 'The Pink Fairy Book', neither of which I imagine seem to be the right thing :)

If your using the vibrant and one would hope since your posting in this forum it comes with the app pre-installed and it lets you stream stuff on your phone to your computer, xbox, ps3 or whatever else you have that can stream stuff on your home network.

Alright, so I went into All Share and it came up with 'Connect to Wi-Fi network to use AllShare'. So I turned Wi-Fi on and now I have no idea what to do, also, I'm connected to the internet on the work computers by cable not wireless (not sure if this is an issue).

P.S. Sorry for all the novice questions and thanks for the help.

After enabling it over wifi go to another computer, blu-ray player, ps3 or whatever and you can stream whatever you shared to said device if you picked that option when you loaded allshare. On a computer it should show up in network places as a media server device.

Alright, now it all makes a bit more sense (I realise now that I need to connect to wi-fi on my phone and my computer and there isn't any wi-fi where I work, but at least I know how to do it later).

However, this still leaves me with my original problem, is there a way to play my music on my phone on the WMP on my work computer?

Thanks dude.....

I downloaded all the packages and was about to do this when I thought of something, I cant get into recovery or download without doing it through ADB, so now Im worried that if I do the no brick pda then unplug it I wont be able to get back into download mode, since my the button combo isnt working and I dont know if ADB will recognize the device after I flash the no brick pda, any thoughts on this?

Do you know if the no brick pda would once again allow me to do the 3 button combo?

*EDIT* Nevermind I found a page that helped me solve the 3 button issue, apparently "some" batches of SGS's didnt have the correct secondary bootloaders or the bootloader was corrupted, so I found these instructions and it worked like a charm, Ill post the link incase anyone else has a similar problem Fix 3-Button Combo Download & Recovery Mode In Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000

So now Im gonna do it up Ill post up here and let you know how it goes
