Help SD Card problems

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my GS4 and my 16gb memory card. My memory card keeps getting corrupt and anything on it (music, photos) become extremely slow to view, most of the times the phone just won't load and I have to force close gallery/music player.

I already formatted my memory card once (losing some photos that it just wouldn't let me copy to my computer) and it fixed the problem temporarily until it happened again.
I'll now have to lose even more photos that I can't copy from my phone and its getting stupid.

I only use up about 3gb of 16gb of my memory card and the phone's internal memory is almost untouched so I don't understand why this keeps happening.

Its really frustrating as this isn't the only problem I've had with this phone, and really this being my first top range phone, I've had too many issues with basic stuff such as camera not working and the phone blacking out during calls, making it impossible to end the call/use keypad and nothing I press ( lock button/home button do anything until the call is ended by the other person).

I had a 2gb memory card before and the same thing happened, I don't know if I'm buying cheap memory cards or if I'm just unlucky but I wouldn't mind some help on what I can do.

Is my only option to buy a new memory card and hope for the best? If so, could anyone recommend any reliable memory cards?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help

1) There are a lot of counterfeit memory cards out there, but I don't think too many people are counterfeiting 16GB cards, and no one would counterfeit a 2GB card, since that's what they're using to counterfeit 32GB and 64GB cards.

But yes, you could be buying cheap cards - that are made with chips rejected by other card makers as being too bad for even them to use.

2) Buy SanDisk. If you have a problem they'll help you. (They even wrote a patch to their cards to fix a problem with Samsung phones - even though it's Samsung's fault.) You'll probably pay more, but sour milk is cheaper than fresh milk too.

I'll try my luck with Sandisk and although I wasn't aware there were so many fake memory cards being sold, I bought my Kingston 16gb one from the official amazon so I'm not sure if I got a fake one. The 2gb I had was included in my old phone that I got off a mobile store and it had worked fine before using it with my GS4.

I am convinced it is the phone corrupting the SD card. My class 10 worked flawlessly for 2 years in my Blackberry but was damaged by the GS4 after 6 weeks. I had to reformat the card using my PC but the damage was such that no recovery tools worked so now I keep a backup of my SD card on PC is I believe the GS4 is unreliable.

I really don't understand why this phone has so many problems, its really good when everything works, but more often than not it doesn't. Getting really frustrated as just in the past week I've had to send the phone back for repair, corrupted memory card and today I'm having to restart the phone to get network.
argh

There are a lot of fake 64gb cards being sold on Amazon, but if you go for sandisk you should be ok.
I got a 64gb sandisk one from Amazon for

You can try and see if your computer or laptop can read the cards. (That's one way to narrow down the problem.) Chances are, if your computer/laptop can't read the card, its probably a bad card.

As to the screen turning off during a call, that's a feature its suppose to do to prevent face dialing. (I believe it can be turned off.) Also, if you have screen lock enabled, it will still lock when on a call. That's why none of the buttons work. (Although you still should be able to end the call after waking up the phone, even if it locked during the call.)
