For a while now I have been trying to debug some strange activity on my SD card - camera not saving pictures, picture files and music albums disappearing. It turns out that the SD Card is randomly(?) getting remounted as read-only. I say randomly because I don't know for sure when it happens. It can happen anytime whether using an app or not. I only know after the fact when something doesn't work or if I check the file system with Astro. I also know that when it happens, I probably have lost something, because there are one or more new files in LOST.DIR. I opened a few as image and sound files and sure enough they were some of my missing files. Except that after the most recent occurance the file in LOST.DIR was 2.5 megs of all zeroes! I am usually able to restore functionality by unmounting then remounting the SD card. "Usually", because once the card was so hosed that I had to pull the battery to get it unmounted. I have reformatted the card (on the phone), checked it with Win XP in the SD card slot, ran SD Card Tester from Gilmar Purin (Android Market). No problems found with the card, the Speed test wrote at 4megs and read at 6 megs. I have searched forums and found many similar issues, but no solutions. Failing a real solution, what I would like is some kind of app to monitor and or log the event, so I maybe I could track down the offending app. Also, a link to some insight into file management on Android might prove useful. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated. Droid X 2.2.3 with 16gig SD card from Wintec.
