Help SD card unexpectedly removed error

I just brought my new Samsung Galaxy S4 home, put the SD card that has been working perfectly in my old S3, and immediately got the error that the sd card was "unexpectedly removed" from my device. then it would say "preparing SD card" and then it would be unexpectedly removed again.
I am afraid everything has been destroyed on the card & I don't know what to do!! help please

The phone has messed up my SD card which worked perfectly for 2 years. Many others are experiencing SD card problems, too. I could not retrieve and data from the card. I had to put it in the adaptor and connect it to my PC and reformat it, nothing else worked like repairing the file system.
I now have to keep backups of my SD card

It's always a very good idea to keep backups of your data, whether it's and SD card, flash drive, HDD, etc. You probably should even make backups of your internal SD card by using your USB cable and plugging your phone into your computer.

You might want to consider formatting your SD card using your phone. I have read that using your phone works to keep your SD card from becoming "damaged".
