Help SD Card will not take Aps

DebiC

Lurker
I am new the the android market. I like the idea of being able to use external storage. But I have read two books, spent hours on youtube and then called Samsung. Their rep said that you can down load music and files to the SD card but not Aps. How frustrating. I have ordered an USB adapter that will let me use a flashdrive. Hopefully that will help. I am not a big gamer (although I am addicted to sudoku) but I love my music and watching movies while traveling. When I first tried downloading and it would not work - I formated the SD card with the Note. It recognizes the card - but still will not let me download to it. Like I said though - I am very new so I may have to research some of the terms. I am considering taking the Note back and getting an IPAD - but I do love it. I got the 16 GB WIFI version. If anyone has any ideas - please let me know.

Welcome to the forum Debi. The rep gave you the correct information. On "some" devices you can save "some" apps to your external SD card, but you can't save them to an external usb flash drive. You should have plenty of room internally to save all the apps you need.
It's best to run your apps from internal storage and use your external SD card (or any other external flash drive) for music, pictures, etc.
(Sorry, the usb adapter you ordered will not help you out here)

When new to a device like this, we like to download every cool app we see. (I know I was this way when I first got mine) It's simply not practical to do this. If you don't use an app on a regular basis, at least once every week or two, then get rid of it. It's only taking up valuable storage space.
Good luck! :)

Welcome to Android Forums, DebiC; we're glad you're here! :)

cr6 has already given you some great info, but I'm going to move this over to our Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 board where it'll get better exposure.

Definitely store all you media stuff on the external card or drive. That's probably going to be the biggest space hoggers anyways. Apps won't take much space (except for games and offline navigation apps). Get a 32GB or 64GB microSD card for more storage. The flash drive can be used for backup purposes and file transfers.

Also, if possible, format the external cards or drives to exFAT. Better flexibility and handling of large file formats (compared to FAT32).

Use an app like storage analyzer to see what takes up all the space. I have had my Note for over a year and have never had a problem with space on the internal memory.
