Help Sd card won't mount

My phone was on charge over night working perfectly, I woke up and updated my apps and somehow my sd card was unmounted? Ive tried reinserting it but my phone is no longer recognising it. What do I do?

(I've tried reading up but I don't understand all this jargon so please be simple with me!)

Sounds like your SD card has failed. It's pretty common. Just to verify, take it out of your phone and try opening it up with a PC using a card reader. If you can't see the files on the card, then it's toast. If you can, back them up to your PC just in case the card is on it's last legs.
