Hi patsfann,
You can test the SD card with various different PC software programs and check the read/write speeds and the blocks/sectors of the SD card and perform an integrity check and report if there are any bad sectors or blocks.
There are even some apps that will test SD cards too.

Here are some PC software that you could try and test the SD card with -
Minitool Partition. Wizard - Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

H2testw - http://mympx.org/Downloads/p13_sectionid/2/p13_fileid/13

Here are some apps that you could also try -
SD card tester - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.anotherflexdev.sdcardtester.SDCardTester

SD Tools - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ales.veluscek.sdtools

Obviously to test on a PC you need a SD card reader. Read the directions, some PC software needs a clean and fresh formatted SD card to get a highly accurate reading and some may even delete the data on the SD card. So you need to careful there.

Hopefully that will get you started in the right direction and Hopefully its not a hardware/software issue with the device.
