Help SD Data Wiped After Reboot

ACEsq

Newbie
Hi everyone,

I have an issue that happened when I first got the phone in July, but hadn't happened since until the weekend and I was hoping someone here might be able to help me.

When I originally got the phone I flashed the most recent official firmware to the phone so I could transfer apps to the memory card.

The phone seemed to be stalling a bit so I rebooted it as I have done many times before. When I turned it back on, all the music had gone and most of the apps on the sd card are no longer installed.

The weird thing is it isn't all of them, here are the screenshots;

I can't be certain, but it appears to have the same amount of data as it did before the songs and apps were wiped. Is there a way to recover the deleted files? Is there a way to prevent this happening again in future? Is there a reason it hasn't "deleted" all of the apps? I have looked around on the Internet for a solution but none of the problems I find seem to match exactly what has happened to mine.

Any help would be brilliant and very much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Bad SD card? Perhaps one of the problematic San Disc models? Mine did inconsistent things before I returned it.

That's certainly possible, but it seems strange that it not all of the files have been deleted. As I say, it seems like although the phone cannot read the apps, I think they are still on there because I only had about 4 gb on it before the error occured anyway. When I can get my hands on a laptop this week I'm going to try something I have heard about called PhotoRec, and see if I can restore the missing files. My only other options are to either reformat the card and hope it doesn't happen a 3rd time or just bin it as untrustworthy and get a new one. Neither of those are attactive options!!

When I was dealing with my card it would do all sorts of things. Sometimes everything would be gone, and sometimes just part. Once I even had to reformat. The difference though is I had a hard time getting everything onto the card in the first place, which was a problem you didn't seem to have. But maybe my card's situation was worse.

I think I know. I'm thinking counterfeit SD Card. As explained that is how faked capacity SD Cards work.

I've used this:
H2testw 1.4
hxxp://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/H2testw.shtml

Learned my lesson though. I never buy SD Cards or Jump Drives from less than NewEgg, BB, Stapl, OM, OD etc.

The card that has broken was bought on eBay (I know, I know...) and it looks like he has been suspended and other items I was watching at the time have been removed so I suspect bad card is right. Now got a 32gb official Samsung one on the way which will hopefully not have the same problem!
