Help Sdcard and sdcard-ext...

I'm really hoping someone has found a way to rename or something!

My sdcard the 8GB internal is almost full due to apps that install stuff there by default and give no option to move it..like Navigon...it installs all its maps there...

I'm a UNIX guy...is there any reason I can't move stuff from sdcard to sdcard-ext and setup a symlink? Anyone try it yet?

Honestly naming the internal card sdcard seems to me like a huge design flaw...!

The only way possible would be to set up a symlink to /sdcard-ext in / and call it sdcard - and that obviously will not work b/c /sdcard already exists.

It is a huge pain - just start bugging the developers to either A) allow for moving data to a location of your choice, or B) Fix their apps so it looks for a mount for /SDCard-ext first, and if not found, then and only then uses /SDCard

Not if I did it at the folder level for like navigon it would be

Sdcard/navigon linked to sdcard-ext/navigon

Technically that should work...

I'll try it tomorrow and let you know

Ahh, good point. You'd have to make /sdcard-ext/navigon folder, move everything there, and then delete the /sdcard/navigon folder and finally create the symlink.

(Instructions are not for you, but for others reading this post who may not know how to do it.)

Hey, it might work.... Do, please, keep us posted....

FWIW - I have 6 GMail accounts (2 GMail and 4 Google Apps) as well as 2 other email accounts, all of which I check via Thunderbird (10a1 on Win7x64).

I used to have all accounts in one profile, but recently I split them up into their own profiles.

I use one profile as my main profile, with all the addons installed that I want to use, and I symlink to the addons in all the other profiles....

It's a great time saver - only having to update addons in one profile and having the rest of them propagated automatically :D

With astro u should be able to rename and move any of those files with no problem. I moved some thingss i was not supposed to be able to move this way. I got a message that said move failed but it was moved and everything was there and still working fine.

The issue isn't moving files.. the problem is apps look for their files in a certain place if you just move it without linking the app won't work

I have the same problem ..... I have a 32 GB SD card from my last phone and can't figure out how to move apps to it, rather than moving them to the 'media storage' area.

Do not install apps on sd-ext. Put your music, photos, documents, downloads, etc. on sd-ext, but install all your apps to the internal memory or they will start mis-behaving and/or disappearing. Under Settings > Storage set the location to SD card rather than internal and in camera settings, set the storage location to Sd Card rather than internal. That will put most stuff other than apps on sd-ext.
