Help sdcard causing freezing on droidx

Ok- I have a Droidx that i bought used after i killed my droid R2D2. It was working great with only normal issues until about a week ago. Then it started running very slow and/or freezing. I got a "low memory" message, checked, and found my phone memory only had like 15mb of available space. Then I read somewhere I should keep 100mb of free space on my phones regular storage to keep it running smoothly. So I went in and moved all the apps that i could to my sdcard, which has plenty of storage (6+ free gb), and got my phones available storage up to 80mb. This seemed to solve the problem for about a day, but then the power got low, and it froze again. Since then, it will sometimes work ok, and sometimes freeze, with no rhyme or reason. When it freezes, I have to pull the battery to restart. Sometimes it restarts and works, sometimes it restarts and freezes.

By accident, yesterday, I discovered that when I pulled out my sdcard, my phone started working again. Working great actually. Absolutely no problems freezing, or running slowly. Further research has shown other people have experienced this problem. For some, they had corrupted files on their sdcard. In other cases, it seems moving apps to the sdcard was the problem. I've also read where the sdcard itself can cause the problem if not properly inserted, or its making a poor connection.

I have found the sdcard does have a "sweet spot" where it seems to be least likely to cause freezing. Not sure if this is because the card came from a different droid version? I have downloaded all my pics to my computer, and shifted my vital apps back to my phoneas storage. Worried that my phone will freeze again, I am prepared to erase and reformat my sdcard, as i've heard this can help. However, ive also read where doing this from my phone may or may not help, and may cause further problems.

Help! Should I unmount the sdcard, and reformat from my phone? Should I try to delete all the files either using my file expert app or through my computer? I do have a couple of mp3s that i downloaded from an app i had to remove because it was allowing adware, and in other cases, corrupted mp3 files are the cause of the problem. I do not own an sdcard reader, and would rather not have to buy one (not even an option till next week). Any thoughts?

Just how many apps do you have on the DX? The DX comes with about 6Gb usable space for app storage. I've had over 100 apps and never dropped below 5Gb free (Settings/Storage/Application storage)

Is this card the one previously in the Droid R2D2? It could be that the .android_secure folder was created under a different version of Android could be causing the problem. That's the folder where apps moved to the SD card are stored. Maybe the DX cannot read that folder properly, but it's just a guess.

Sounds like your best bet. If you want to backup the contents before doing this, since you don't have a reader, just hook the phone up to your computer. Once hooked up, from the Notification dropdown, select USB connection/USB Mass Storage. You should be able to browse the SD card with any file explorer (Windows Explorer, etc).

Definitely format the card within the DX. Once you have backed up your data (see above), disconnect from your computer. Then: Settings/Storage/Unmount SD Card/Format SD Card

Also there is a GREAT and active sub forum of DX users here. I've been an active member there since before the launch of the DX. Feel free to join us and post any questions or comments there: Motorola Droid X - Android Forums

Thanks! So i double checked, and under settings-sdcard and internal phone storage, it says i have 7.39gb on my sdcard, with 6.21 gb available. Under internal phone storage it says i have 55.21 mb available. I have approx 100 apps listed under "all apps", though many are under 500 kb. I have about 30 downloaded apps, of which i moved about 20 to the sdcard, but then moved some back to my phone. It sounds like maybe theres another issue with my phone if theres so little internal storage available? Would doing a factory reset help this?

The sdcard is the original one from R2D2. I didnt change anything, just took it out of R2 and put it into Dx.

Is the phone running the stock ROM? I had an issue with Liberty ROM, my DX and low memory issues. Look under: Settings/About Phone What does your Build Number say? It should be similar to the one below if stock.

The build number on mine says FRK76. Nothing at all like what you say stock rom should be. I have not changed anything since I got the phone. Its how it came, except for whatever updates have been sent out. Thakn you again for your help!

FRK76 should be on your R2D2 and the original Droid. Are you saying FRK76 is on your Droid X? Let's make sure, the Droid X does not have a slider keyboard. Did you buy an original Droid used?

Which one are you having trouble with?

Hahaha... I do have an original Droid (with the slider keyboard), and not a droid-x. I did buy the original droid (the one im currently having problems with) online used. Sorry for the incorrect info previously. I wish, every day, that I had been more careful with R2D2. Is there any way to fix water damaged phones? Thank you again... D

No problems. Just post your question in the OG Droid Support forum here:
Droid - Support and Troubleshooting - Android Forums
I did a couple of searches in that forum for "sd card slowdown, etc." and didn't see your exact problem, but there may be some good suggestions there.

Sometimes, a wet phone can be revived if you remove the battery and submerse the phone into a closed bag of rice for a day or so. The rice absorbs the moisture from the air thus "pulling" trace water from within the phone. It doesn't always work, and it should usually be done immediately after the accident occurs.
