Help Search button doesn't do anything

Just noticed when I hit the search button at the bottom of the screen, nothing happens...unless I hold it down until the voice search box opens up. Normal? I don't think it is...
 
actually i did...launcherpro. I don't remember launcherpro killing the search button on any of my other phones though..?
 
Doesn't matter now anyway...I went ahead and rooted and froze the bloatware including bing, so now it's dead for sure..lol
 
I use GO Launcher too, and the Search button doesn't do anything either (though I'm not sure it's the launcher's problem). In GO Launcher, you can set the Home key to an application and I tried setting it to Google Search. It worked, but It would be great if you could reassign the Search key the same way. (Think I'll ask the Developer if they can do it.) I have the Google Search widget on my home screen, but you could assign a button on the dock bar to Google Search if you didn't want to have the widget. - MarkC
