Apple sued Samsung over this and actually got the Galaxy Nexus banned because of it. As a result Samsung sent out a patch that removed this feature. I downloaded the search app from XDA and it works again, the only downside is when you reboot the phone it removes the feature again.

Yep, you can thank Apple for this missing feature.

Wow, that is really disappointing. Why just this phone when all android phones do it

For some reason Apple just targeted Samsung. My guess is because they fear them the most. Apple didn't go after the Galaxy S3, Samsung just pulled the feature to prevent it from being contested and potentially banned like the Galaxy Nexus.

I do agree that it is crazy especially because it has been there for several years and they are just now complaining about it.

Apple daren't target Google directly as apple relies on Google. Soooooo they target Samsung and HTC, as the biggest android OEMs. Although these are the big boys, their gross can't match apple.

Its annoying Google doesn't stand up for the oems but they also rely on apple. Its a mutually beneficial relationship.
