Help Searching for service all day

drsifl

Lurker
Just topped off my phone for the month today. Used it for maybe 20 minutes, then when I picked it up a few hours later I noticed it was 'searching for service'. Service is normally pretty bad in my apartment but I have never seen this before, but I figured it would go away in a few minutes. However, after a walk to normally better service area and a few hours later I still am 'searching for service' I emailed VM customer service and they just told me to dial some number and punch in my phone number and some other number which didn't do anything (numbers were already in memory).

Another thing I noticed is that in the quick settings App I noticed that the mobile data part of the app says 'no APN configured'. Not sure if this was here before and I just never noticed or if its relative to the problem.

I am in Washington DC.

Anybody else having this issue?

Any help would be great, thanks

I loose 3G every month my top up day is due and have to call VM and have them reset the plan. Never lost phone service though. Try calling 1-800-600-8065. This is a direct line to Tech support.

I was having this same problem. On the last day of my month, I would lose text message, internet and 3G. I called 3 months in a row to complain, and they would just offer to reset my plan. (BTW, when they reset your plan, it just starts the next month, so you actually lose the last day of the 30 day period.)

Last month, I called again and complained. I finally got somebody who told me that this is their policy. If you don't have the money in your account, they turn off the data and text messages (the phone will still work.) This makes no sense to me considering it automatically charges my credit card for the next month. But he claims this is how it works. VM is getting to be very shady!

well i spent the day trying to contact VM. I did the online contact us thing and was told to dial some ## number and re enter my phone number and some other ID. That did nothing.

I did another request online and told them the first thing they told me to do did nothing and they responded saying that they would have to send me a replacement phone.

Before I got the second response I was calling VM and was first handled by some dude who barely spoke english and then was sent to the higher level of care and was told to do the ## stuff again. After nothing working I was told they were going to put my case as high priority and investiage.

Will post when I know what happens.

Anybody ever get a phone sent to them from VM for a problem like this?

That rep is full of it! I never keep money in my account because I use PayPal, and aside from getting the Redirect of Death for a few hours when my second month started, I have never lost data and text on the last day of the month.

I don

Same here (other than that I use a credit card instead of PayPal.) I also got the redirect last time the month reset, but it went away on its own after just a few minutes.

I've always kept at least $30 on my account since I bought the phone so all they have to do is take the $25 out. But for the last two months I have to go through the reset routine to get data back. VM needs to get their act together.

^Seriously. I don't think they even use scripts at this point. They must've resorted making up crap on the fly just to get you off the phone. Do they have any idea at all that we, like, communicate with each other?

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree.

Back when I had a previous Optimus, I was wanting to port my # over from AT&T, so I told the heavy-accented lady what I wanted to do.

She just takes me into the activation screen, and told me to put my AT&T phone number into the MDN, and MSID fields, hit OK, then it would reboot, then hit ACTIVATE when it came back up.

Well, you and everyone else should know THAT WAS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not that simple. She was either reading that off a script, or just b/s'ing me to get of gone off the line.

I just ended up calling the Escalations line, and she asked me all the info from my carrier, including my account #, and pin # for att so she could port. It was going to take 4 days she said, so I just cancelled it.

But goes to show you those phone reps are idiots sometimes.
