Second Guessing my decision

I recently upgraded my phone from a Samsung Rogue to a Droid Incredible. I debated waiting until February but I got a very good deal to do an early upgrade so I took the plunge.

I've had the Incredible for about 3 weeks and for the most part I'm happy. However, 4 of my friends at work all just got Samsung Fascinate's and I find myself questioning my decision. They talk about how great their battery life is even with those amazing screens. Should I have gotten a Fascinate instead?

The way I see the pros/cons for each phone:

Droid Incredible
Pros: Google Maps
Google GPS
I like the smaller 3.7 screen
HTC sense

Cons:
Battery life is just horrible
hate the messaging app (lists all emails, home, cell #'s when you enter a name) very annoying
no swype keyboard
music player is just okay (although I do like the lock screen controls on the sense player)

Samsung Fascinate
Pros:
Amazing screen
Music player is really nice
running faster processor
good battery life
like the lock screen (fitting pieces of a puzzle instead of sliding)

Cons:
Samsung (did not have good experiences with my previous Samsung phones)
Bing
still running Android 2.1
the widgets are more iphone/generic looking
phone is a little big for my taste
Touch Wiz

So I keep coming back to it's a toss up and I keep questioning my decision to go with the Incredible.

honestly you cant go wrong with either, they are both great phones. the fascinate does have great battery life but if GPS is important, then the GPS on the fascinate is kinda sucky. Id say stop by a store and try out the fascinate and see if you like the way it works.

Generally speaking my Galaxy S (Captivate) will get better battery life than my Nexus 1. I still prefer my Nexus over the Captivate because the size and build. The 4" screens just make it a little clumsy in my pocket and considering my phone is in and out of my pocket all day, that's a big consideration (for me).

The other cons for the Incredible can all be addressed with the right app (and you still can sign up for the Swype beta. I use it all the time and love it.)

Same for the cons for the Galaxy ... You don't have to use bing. Google still works. 2.2 is on the way (probably January) and a different launcher will take care of the widgets and touchwiz.

The differences are not that great however for me to say one phone is superior to the other. I am happy having both and either works very well.

If you don't like the Touchwiz UI you can always install Launcherpro, adwlauncher, or any of the myriad of launchers in the market.

It is very hard to forget about the SAMOLED screen once you've seen it. Galaxy S phones will get 2.2, it's just a matter of time.

A lot of people don't seem to get this but individual usage greatly affects battery life.

It's your call as to whether you should switch. You might want to try improving your researching before buying next time unless you just tend to have buyer's remorse no matter what.

+1.

That's the biggie.. although there are a few devices out there with a reputation for poor battery life.

But, yes, what we have syncing or updating in the background, how we use Maps/GPS, our calling habits, multimedia, etc.. that's battery life in a nutshell.

The incredible was a pretty popular phone, wasn't it? I have to imagine there are some after-market batteries that hold more juice than the original, so that might be another option for you.

Just found that as an example. It adds some bulk, and you might be able to find it for less $$ elsewhere, but going several days between charges might be worth it.

I wish they had something like that for my phone, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

I understand that individual usage determines battery life. These users all use their phone similar to mine, work in same building and are on the same carrier. I did research this phone and others prior to purchasing. I debated back and forth between the incredible and the fascinate for over an hour in the store because I liked different features about each phone. I went with the incredible because it was my initial choice. Just wondering if I should do an exchange while I am still in my 30 days.

Honestly, when i had my galaxy s phone, i had shitty battery life. I have an evo now and by tweaking it a little im getting just as good/better battery life. The evo and the incredible are alot alike on the insides.

I didnt like the galaxy s because of the brand (Ugh..samsung) Taking forever to get 2.2. If you think its taking this long to get 2.2 just imagine how long its gonna be before they ever get another update. The only thing i liked more about the Galaxy s is the screen quality, but that deff isnt enough to sway me away from my evo (or if i had an incredible for some reason).

Theres things you can do to save battery life, for instance, turn off apps that require GPS updates all the time. live wallpapers, screen time out times, use WIFI whenever you can and other things. There should be a thread in the incredible forum somewhere.

But again, i would never choose a Samsung (Galaxy s) product over the evo, incredible or any high end HTC.

:)
