Help Secure Wifi Connection Issues

Ok new here so forgive me if this seems redundant but looking through the boards I couldn't find an answer to this problem. I have two android phones one a Samsung Nexus S and a Samsung Instinct MPH-M910 to the wireless router at home. Both are under a month old not sure what version the Nexus S is running at the moment but if memory servers its 2.3.* and the Instinct is running 2.2.1.

The router in question is a Cisco Valet M10 V2 wireless N 2.4GHz router with WPA/WPA2 encryption turned on and SSID broadcasting. When both phones try and connect to the router it says Scanning, authenticating then finally disconnected and loops over it self again and again . I have tried forgetting the password and retyping it several times hoping that would clear the problem but it didn't. I'm hoping someone on here will have some idea what I can do to fix this problem.

Hi, this sounds like a router firewall problem. I don't know this one but most modern routers give you the option to reserve ip addresses for any devices on your home network. This means that your device will always get the same IP address assigned and it will automatically be authenticated by your router. In most cases you need to log into the router and find the LAN settings where you can fix the IP for oyur phones. You ahve to know the phones MAC addresses as they are the unique identifier for each device. After reserving the IPs you should be able to log on. Sorry can't be more specific.

Assigning via MAC address is a security measure that prevents other devices from accessing your router (I use it to help secure my network), but it's not necessary to get a device to connect to the router.

The issue is probably the default IP allocation pool can't "see" the new devices as it caches the device IDs. Just power cycle the router and it should detect the phones.

If that doesn't work, then disable WiFi security and leave it wide open to see if the phones can connect. If so, then re-enable security and double-check that you're typing the password correctly...and you should be able to connect.
