Hi all. I just got my S3 from ebay a few days ago and I do like it. I did have an iphone before but stupidly left that on a train (I think) early last week. I can't locate the thing it's run out of battery or been turned off. Now, I am a little paranoid and want to know the best things I can do to prevent anyone using my new phone if I loose this or it goes missing etc. New to Samsung It's all a little different but I suspect the same principle applies to the "Find my iphone" as it does to Samsung "Find my mobile" But, what if my phone looses power, the battery dies etc, is there a way of finding it then and also if someone turns it off and takes the sim out could I find it if/when they connected it to a wifi or network even after restoring the thing? Sorry for the silly questions but it's cost me a lot of money and I would be gutted if this went walkies and I couldn't find it! Cheers. :)

The quick, easy and free, will be Android Device Manager. Free Google solution for your android device.

For 3rd party app, I use Cerberus. The phone takes photos using front camera, of anyone who tries to unlock it, then it mails them to you. You can remotely record video, wipe the phone, lock the phone, track the phone, and record audio of people talking. The app can be hidden from app drawer and initiated using keypad password. It will also allow you to download call and sms logs.

And if someone remove the sim card, it will SMS your pre-set number, with phone's new information, which you could pass to your provider. You can control the phone remotely via web interface, or via SMS commands.

It's a great app, but I really hope, I will never get to use it :)

P.S.
If the phone has no power, you won't be able to find it. It needs data or wifi or gps in order to locate it. Naturally, without power, non of these works.
However, with cerberus, you could enable mobile history. And find the last place the phone was, before it went off line.

Or you could try a FREE solution from avast mobile security, which lets you do the things Cerberus does and you can set the app to alert you before the battery dies so you can do a full system wipe including any external SD card. Naturally you can log in from any PC to your personal account online and find the location of your phone, send warning messages to it, wipe it, receive copies of call logs, text messages and so on. On top you get a decent anti-virus scanner.
