Root selecting default option went missing

all of a sudden i do not get the option to select the default app when opening various things... lg optimus f7 rooted simplicity rom nova launcher.... its weird the other day i randomly checked OTA updates, and it claimed there was an update.... so i downloaded and flashed it, and it was the same version.... then now i noticed i dont get the ability or option to select default apps... can anyone chime in as to how to solve this annoying issue?
 
so when you choose to do something, it launches an app without asking you? or does it simply give you a list of apps, but not give you the "always" and "just once" buttons? or how exactly does that work?
