Help Selecting phone source while in car

Brand new to the forums, but have found help in searching for other issues so I'm gonna ask for help with something I can't find help with.

We have 2 phones in our house, 1 is an iphone the other HTC EVO. Our in-car stereo system allows for bluetooth calling.

On the iphone's call screen we can select the phone mode we want to use for a call - the vehicle or the handset.

I can't figure out how to take a call only using my HTC EVO handset while in the car, it defaults to answering over the stereo system. When I have other people in the car, I may want to have a private conversation on the handset and not have it broadcast over the speakers.

It seems like the only solution is to turn the bluetooth function off during the call.

Does anyone have any experience with this that can tell me the easiest way to take a call on the handset while in the car?

Thanks in advance!

My car has the option to use the handset once the call has been answered. I don't think I can answer it direct to the handset but I could be wrong (haven't paid attention).
So for me, I would answer, and tell them to hang on for a moment.
I don't have an answer for you as a phone option, in my case, it's controlled by the car.
What's the make and model of your car? Or is it an aftermarket stereo?

Thanks for the reply. It's a 2011 Ford Explorer with the factory stereo.

When you have a call answered, what's on the screen? I have a few options available to me, hang up and use handset are two of them, but I think there is another. What about you? Any options displayed on a screen in the car while on a call?
Perhaps there is a MORE button, or something like that.

My 4 options while in a car are:

Hang Up
Handset
Mute
Keypad

I also have a touchscreen GPS built in, so it's a rather large screen. Perhaps Nissan decided they needed to fill that empty space with some options for in-call management...

I'm driving the other vehicle today, but will check the display this evening. It also has a fairly large GPS display, so possibly I've just missed these other options.

Thanks for the input and for moving this to the correct thread!
