Help Selective Google Calendar Sync Error, not the usual one.

Hi I have an S4 from Verizon, non-rooted and I enabled developer mode. Everything works fine and I love this phone, but one odd issue (worth making this post about) has been bothering me.
Using android 4.3 Jellybean

When I sync my google account it says sync error with the red symbol,BUT it does in fact sync everything and I have all my contacts and apps and stuff. When I remove my Google account, all of the contacts go away and when I sync they're back.
All of the sync arrow cycles seems to go through, next to the check boxes, they're all fine EXCEPT, there is no option for "Sync Google Calendar" ... This is where my issue differs from ones I've seen.
YES I've tried removing and re-adding account, Re-installing Google Calendar AND making a new account and syncing that, new accounts made ALSO don't show "Sync Google Calendar".

With the chrome webapp for Google Calendar it does infact sync everything and that works through Chrome in that tiny interface. I also have all my desktop chrome bookmarks via the 2 step verification in chrome.

So my only issues are, the red error for Sync Google account and nothing showing for Google Calendar app.

When I click "Calendars to Sync" it just stays blank and loads forever, and I KNOW I have Calendars to sync since they DO show up on the webapp.

Here is a picture of the error: (can't link)
but it says

"Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly"

Please Help.

I hate to blame another seemingly stupid error on the 4.3 update, but that sounds like what it is. The red error is probably just the code at the end of the sync process not handling the "okay, everything is done" message properly. Annoying but you can live with it until they come out with a fix.

The "no calendars" issue is something I wouldn't even try to guess at. Install Jorte calendar, set it to use your Google account calendar and see if it syncs. If yes, the 4.3 calendar app (or something in settings) is messed up. If no, the whole calendar sync system in the update is. (Nothing you can do about the latter, and I'm not suggesting that you use Jorte instead of the calendar you're using - it's just a diagnostic tool - although there's no reason not to use it, I used it for a few years, until the family switched to Cozi.)

Damn, that stinks, thanks for the help though. Yeah Jorte didn't seem to show anything because I think the new version doesn't seem to show an option for syncing google oddly...

How do you totally restore an android phone? is there like a key hold or something? I do really want Google Calendar to work and I wouldn't mind having to go through the phone and disable and turn off all the verizon crap.

thanks.
