Help Sending Email While Connected To Wifi

Works for me. Send / receive. You can browse the net I presume?

Yep surfing is no problem & I can receive fine it's just sending I can't do.

Worked fine when I had my Blackberry but not since I got my Desire.

Must be something to do with my email settings but I'm loathe to mess around with them cos it took me ages to get them right in the first place!

Do you use the firewall on your wireless router? If so, if you turn that functionality off briefly, does it send then?

I can send via the Android email app, using smtp for gmail. Still not exactly what you're asking, but I'm pretty sure you should be able to.

I've read on a couple of other forums that you can't send on wifi as obviously I'm not connected to their servers so I'm really confused about this one.

That doesn't make sense. Your outgoing settings are their servers. It's like using Outlook on your laptop via WiFi.

The only thing I can imagine it is is the router which isn't firewalled.

Can you send on the same account through an email client on your pc via wifi?

Not sure to be honest, haven't tried it.

I was in Starbucks the other day & was connected to their wifi & tried to send an email & that didn't work either.

I have 2 POP3 addresses I use, Wanadoo (Orange) & Tesco & neither work.

As I said earlier I'm nervous about messing about with the settings cos it took me ages to get it working when I first got the handset.

I might try messing about with Gmail through the stock app to see if that works.

You can send on Gmail connected to wifi through the stock app?

Yu may find that your email provider will only allow sending email whilst connected to thier service to prevent spammers. Can you send email whilst connected to your home wifi but not when out and about? Can you send email whislt connected through your mobile network?

I can send email no problem when connected to the mobile network but not on any kind of wifi, home or otherwise.

The strange thing is when I had my BB I could send on wifi & I am using the same 2 email addresses.

I can confirm that I can send email from the stock email app via WiFi. No idea why you can't although it's not POP3 (which is a collection protocol), it'll be SMTP that needs setting-up.

Would you mind posting up what settings you're using & what you have ticked & unticked?

I don't use the same ISP so it wouldn't help. If you can send on phone OTA and not from WiFi it has to be down to their servers refusing the connection from the IP address that you're wifi is connected to where it accepts the IP address that the OTA link connects to. If I were you I'd talk to the ISP's help-desk.

I tried that but they didn't have a clue.

I've spoke to Orange cos I even have 1 of my email addresses with them & they couldn't help. MY SMTP servers are set to Orange for both addresses so they must be the problem?

It isn't a massive issue to me just more irritating really having to go in & switch off wifi when I want to send an email.

Guess I'm gonna have to add an a\c in the stock app & see if that works.
