Root Sending Evo to HTC for repair; am I ok?

My charge port is beginning to fail. Actually, it's at the point where the charge voltage is so low, I have to power my phone off to get any sort of charge to the battery.

I've tried different chargers, outlets, etc. Sometimes the charge light doesn't even appear. I called HTC and they are having me send the phone in.

Problem is I have my phone rooted/NAND unlocked and flashed with Fresh.

Do I need to worry about this?

I don't mind flashing a stock rom or doing whatever I need to do, I just need to get this repaired.

Rooting voids your warranty... On the other hand, they can't really argue that the usb port is failing because of root.

I would flash a stock rooted rom. That way it's not as obvious. But be prepared for them to give you a new phone. Backup your phone and copy the files off your sd card.

I work at a service and repair center. It really depends on if your service and repair center follows the rules entirely. I would flash it back to stock just to be safe but the problem you will run into is - no fixing a broken charging port so the replacement phone they will be sending you is gonna have 2.2 on it.
 
I had same problem, except i was dealing with sprint and not htc. I had to run simpleroot to get back to the older radio then had to run the ruu to return to stock. I then ran ota updates and have not heard from sprint about anything.

Ugh, I can not for the life of me find a stock rom.

If the stock rom isn't enough, can someone shoot me an updated guide on unrooting?

I did all the rooting and flashing work myself. Used the command console to flash/add Amon Ra recovery, so I'm not completely ignorant with this but am I making this more difficult than it is to get my phone back to stock?

You are/should be searching for a 1.47 Stock rom. Not the 2.2 froyo stock rom.

Here is the RUU: [ROM]RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15. 00.07.28 - xda-developers

Make sure HTC Sync is up and running, then run the RUU from your computer.
 
Why are you sending it to HTC? Take it to a sprint repair center. the warranty is through sprint, not HTC. If you take it to sprint, they will just give you another one on the spot, or send you one in the mail. No need to wait weeks.

Alright I'll do this first. I figured Evos weren't in stock at any stores.

Edit: Also, because the port is faulty, I cannot access it via USB. So I can only add files to the SD card by using an adapter. This rules out being able to use HTC sync.
 
The repair center basically told me to pay $100 or kick rocks.

I'm sending it off to HTC. I have it back to stock 1.47.
 
I would go into a Sprint store and see about a replacement. You will get a refurb but you'll probably get a refurb anyways if they can't fix it. But why wait and pay HTC $100 to fix something on a phone that is in warranty? HTC really should stop making phones.

Call Sprint and tell them it won't charge period. They will send you a new Evo. Their customer service is MUCH improved. They sent me a refurb last week after I was having internet issues. It had 2.2 on it, FYI. I should mention that the closest repair center is like 32 miles for me, so that helped my case.

I've already sent the phone off, HTC said it will be covered as long as nothing has been tampered (water sensor, warranty seal on screw etc).

All of that is good and my work gave me an HTC Hero for the meantime. So I'll live.

Man the Hero makes me miss my Evo already. This phone sucks some serious balls.

Nevertheless, I thank everyone very much for all the help!

Remember that phone is more than a year old, I had one a few months ago and appreciated it very much, I had an otterbox for it and everything, I gave it to my brother. The HTC Hero is a good phone, better than the Samsung RANT I have right now in fact. Your going from the EVO to the Hero thats why you are saying that.

haha I agree, I am completely biased since I had the Evo powerhouse.

But seriously, texting on this thing laaaags. And a phone this small needs a physical keyboard. I fat-finger so many other keys including enter, delete, and my worst enemy: the period.

But yeah, it is an older phone and it still does the job. I shouldn't complain at all since my company WOULD have given me the Motorola Q9 as an alternative. I'm pretty sure I would have vomited or shat myself having to deal with Windows Mobile again.
