Help Sending phone back due to dead pixel, will I be able to keep my apps?

Hi there,

had my DHD for a few days now and I've noticed there's a dead pixel smack bang in the centre of my screen. If it was at a corner it wouldn't bother me but it's right in the centre of my vision so I'm sending it back! Orange have been really good with this and will send a new handset tomorrow.

Now I've been looking and I'm not sure, but can I re-download an app from Android that I've already paid for on android market for free even though it's a new handset? I've asked the operator but she just said to back up the app on my computer. Now that would be great but I'm not sure how to do that as I downloaded it from my phone and I use a mac so not sure if there'll be compatibility issues!

Any advice appreciated, I'm getting my new handset tomorrow! :)

Regards,

Richie Lee

Doesn't it go by the e-mail you use? If so, shouldn't be a problemo. Can't confirm though, unfortunately. There are ways to get these apps free if you Google, and normally I wouldn't suggest such arguably illegal methods, but I don't think it would be right if you had to pay again.

im pretty sure prideleader is right in saying it goes of you email address, (but dont quote me on that) however i just had to send my DHD back for a new one and i had all my apps, so think thats down to google or htc sync, tho appbrain i found to be very handy and would be well worth a look as it keeps track of wot apps you have installed, cant see why it wouldnt do the same for paid apps, i cant confirm that tho as i have no paid apps,

hope that of some help

Hi. As you downloaded these apps from the phone, I'm guessing you used Android Market. Now, when you set up your Android phone, you set it up with a Google account (at least this is required for many of the "essential" features that people want today, like downloading from the market). This account is then tied to the programs you bought/downloaded (even the free ones).

So when you get your new phone, just start it up, set it up like you did with the other and your Google account (the same one hopefully), go to the Android Market, and Voila =D! There you will be able to see all your previously downloaded programs, and also be able to redownload the paid programs (for free ofc).

So in a way, the previous posts are true, but not exactly. With a Google account, there is always an email, but your Market is not tied to the email itself, its bound to the "account" =).

Hope that helps, and good luck with your new phone (hope no more dead pixels =D)
